Title: 30 years of fighting poverty through trade
130 years of fighting poverty through trade
Transforming trade, transforming lives
2More than a billion people are fighting to
survive on less than 1 a day. It does not
have to be this way.
3Traidcraft believes that change is possible and
that by transforming trade we can transform lives.
- A fair price is a critical element of fair trade,
enabling producers to provide for their families.
But the benefits are often so much greater
4I use the money I earn to buy food for our
family. If I work here for one day I can buy
enough food for five people. Chut, weaver, Mai
Handicrafts, Vietnam with her son, Lanh
5We are able to get a good price. We have bought
one new cow and we are building a good house with
the coffee money. Echamma Pujari, coffee farmer,
Small Marginal Tribal Farmers Mutually Aided
Cooperative Society, India
6I have managed to build a good house of burnt
bricks with iron sheets for the roof. Alfred
Butao, sugar farmer, Kasinthula Cane Growers Ltd,
Malawi
7I can look after my family and provide better
things for them. Whether it is medicines or
education, I can provide. Dalbir Singh, rice
farmer, Agrocel, India
8My weaving is very important. It helps me buy
food and send my children to school. Thuy Thi
Nguyen, rice farmer and weaver who is part of a
village craft group benefiting from Traidcrafts
development work in Vietnam
9I feel secure for the future. Zaverben Manji,
cotton farmer, Agrocel, India
10We are very grateful for the opportunity that
this fair trade market has given us and we would
like to encourage people to continue. Sonia
Chicao, beekeeper, Apicoop, Chile
11I want to provide my children with a proper
education so they can be stable in life. All my
thoughts are around my two sons. Morjina,
weaver, Jute Works, Bangladesh
12Working here has helped me to construct my house
and also afford to get married. Patrick Julias,
tea plucker, Kibena, Tanzania
13I went to Minka to get trained. It takes me one
day to make a teddy. I think about the children
who may have them. Constantina who, like 4 year
old Ediths mother, Benancia, knits handicrafts
for Minka, Peru
14Together weve come a long way...
From a small selection of Jute products from
Bangladesh....
...to a range of products from over 100 fair
trade producer groups in 30 countries, and 3.4
million people benefiting from our charitys
development work.
From a small number of committed supporters...
... to thousands of Fair Traders, donors,
customers, campaigners, shareholders, speakers
and retailers.
15We do more than just sell Fairtrade Marked
products...
- We pioneer new fair trade innovations.
- We work in long-term partnerships with
producers. - We lobby governments to make trade work for the
poor. - We go the extra mile.
16But theres more to be done...
There are still 1.4 billion people living in
absolute poverty.
Our vision is of a world freed from the scandal
of poverty, where trade is just and people and
communities can flourish.
- Please help us achieve this by
- Buying Traidcraft fair trade products
- Donating to our charity work
- Campaigning with us for trade justice
