Clark Procedures

• Absences contact office in addition to teachers
• Wednesday Assemblies alternating Wednesdays and
  families are welcome to attend
• Pick up under white tent
• Send in lunch money before school
• Music 4th Graders learn recorders
• 5th Graders learn the guitar

Homework Policy

• Planners done each day and need a signature each
  day. This is a STUDENT responsibility. Help
  your child make it a habit to check off each item
  in the planner.
• Homework Hotline is 425-837-6277. (This is a
  student job each day.) This is to hear the
  nightly homework assignments.
• Students may not call parents to bring in late
  work.
• In the Seahawks folder, homework checkers will
  record any missing work. It needs to be turned
  in that week to get any credit. Try NOT to
  schedule family vacations during school.
• Work needs to be neat and organized with proper
  heading.
• Intensity will increase, so it is important to
  establish good habits immediately. Have a
  relaxing and consistent place and time to work.
• Monthly projects tend to stress kiddos out. Help
  your child by looking at the monthly plan in the
  back of the planner and stay organized!

Homework Workload

• Every week there is spelling sent home each
  Friday for the following week.
• Most nights there will be a math Study Link
  (picture of house in corner). It is given out
  each day in mailbox.
• Reading homework should be reading book project
  book and/or Lit. Circle book.
• Every Friday Literature Circle job is due,
  starting in a few weeks.
• Monthly book projects due at the end of each
  month instructions and detailed rubrics will be
  in provided folder.
• Unfinished work will be sent home to complete.
• 4th Grade Families this is a HUGE transition,
  we know. Please establish good habits early and
  dont stress. It takes most kids at least a
  month to settle in and really get the routines.

Homework Schedule

• Mondays Spelling definitions and parts of
  speech on colored note card AND lined paper
• Tuesdays Spelling meaningful sentences
• As the bell rang, students spilled out the doors
  being freed from school.
• Wednesdays Syllables (use dictionary.com) and
  words in words (need at least 2 hidden words)
• Thursdays Key sheet for studying and Lit.
  Circle job
• Weekend unfinished Lit. Circle tests and empty
  Friday Folder
• Math almost every night

Friday Information

• Each Friday a folder of corrected work will be
  sent home. This will contain ALL checked work
  from the week. The empty folder is to be
  returned Monday. The work is for you to keep
  (unless it indicates it must corrected and
  returned).
• The spelling list for the following week will be
  sent home on Friday to help budget time.

find a substitute if needed.

  Mrs. Ferrin.
• Environmental forest ecology year long focus
  led by Mrs. Rickey.
• Writing/Art stories and skills from McGraw
  Hill, Junior Great books, art project, or monthly
  poetry project. Writing is based on stories read
  in stations.

Honeybees

• There are three types of bees that live in a
  colony. One bee is the worker bee. Workers feed
  the queen and larvae, guard the hive entrance and
  help to keep the hive cool by fanning their
  wings. Worker bees also collect nectar to make
  honey.  In addition, worker bees produce wax comb.

5th Grade Camp Coleman

• Dates October 22-24
• Forms are due October 3rd and money is due
  October 12th.
• Cost TBA (150)
• Checks payable to Clark Elementary.
• Parent volunteers have already been selected
  (other 5th grade classes may need volunteers).
• This is a great LEARING experience for the
  students. It is highly encouraged they attend.

Tips for success in the program

• Get plenty of sleep, tired students have a hard
  time concentrating and retaining learning.
• Have students check off homework in planner AS
  they place it into work into Seahawks folder.
• Pack backpacks the night before, things get
  forgotten in the shuffle in the morning.
• Use rubrics to ensure students have included all
  info for projects.
• Have students be accountable for their work,
  questions, and concernsyou are off the hook!

Communication with Teachers

• Newsletters and the class website have tons of
  info - please check there first ?
• Please email BOTH teachers
• One of us will respond within 48 hours
• Please CALL with any serious concerns we are
  very dedicated to our students and are always
  open to talking to families. The best way to do
  this is on the phone or in person, emails can
  easily be misunderstood.
• Notes will be read immediately, they are a great
  way to give us quick and easy updates
• We love to hear positive stories too!!

Volunteers

• To volunteer, you need to attend a Clark training
  and fill out pink WA State Patrol paper. If you
  have been trained at Clark, all you need is to
  fill out a pink WA State Patrol paper. This
  paper is done each year.
• We still have openings for some station leaders
  (done in pairs), and Literature Circle guides.
  We really need people available to substitute for
  stations.
• First field trip is a hike up Tiger Mountain,
  October 6th. Please email if you are interested.
  
• 4th Grade Parents We will be doing a
  stewardship walking field trip on October 23rd,
  let us know if you are interested in volunteering!

Last Minute Info

• Brown Bag Lunch typically done last Wednesday
  of each month to celebrate student birthdays.
  (Parent led)
• Please try to schedule appointments on Wednesdays
  or after school, we have a PACKED schedule!
