• Born January 19, 1809
• Born in Boston, Massachusetts
• His parents separated.
• 1811-mother dies
• Taken in by John and Frances Allan of Richmond,
  Virginia.
• He was raised in wealth, partially in Virginia
  and also in England.
• His name comes from his birth parents, as well as
  the Allens. Edgar Allen Poe.
• Attended the University of Virginia for a short
  period of time.
• 1835- married Virginia Clemm, his 13-year old
  cousin.

Last time at Ryans Tavern

• Traveled by train from Richmond, Virginia to
  Baltimore on September 28.
• October 3, 1849 Poe was found outside of Ryans
  Tavern in Baltimore in a great distress and
  delirious.
• He was put in Washington College Hospital where
  he suffered from tremors and hallucinations.
• He died early on the morning of October 7,1849.
