Selecting a college

• This depends on many factors. Even if you decide
  not to go to college immediately after high
  school, still explore and apply. You will most
  likely go to college at sometime anyway, so it
  will be a good experience to go through the
  process, get recommendations and check all the
  options. Many colleges will give you a deferred
  entry for a year. What school you pick depends
  on your own preferences in the following areas
• Location- Minnesota, Midwest, East .
• Size- small 500-5000, mid 5-15 thousand
• Urban/Rural/ Community Setting
• Program Offerings- joint program offerings
• Athletics or activities
• Housing / campus life
• Admission requirements

University of Minnesota System

• More graduates from Minneapolis attend the
  University than other school.
• Unfortunately, many students apply only to
  Duluth, if they live there, or to the
  Minneapolis campus, if that would be their home.
  Just because everyone else goes there and its
  in your hometown, doesnt necessarily make it a
  good fit. You owe it to yourself to check out
  more than one school.
• Many students are better served at a MNSCU two or
  four year college. Perhaps it would be better to
  start there and then transfer to the University
  system in your final two years. Do keep an open
  mind.

  process. Primary review factors include
• Successful completion of a college preparatory
  curriculum
• High school rank percentile.
• Grade point average
• ACT or SAT scores.
• Strength of the curriculum through high school
  graduation, including courses that exceed the
  core subject requirements and any advanced
  courses (AP, IB, college level)

• UMD- automatic 65 ile and above 40th 65th
  ile selectively
• Morris- Selective policy- HS achievement and ACT
  scores
• Crookston- Top Half of class or 21 and above on
  ACT

Post Secondary Educational OpportunitiesThe
State of Minnesota provides for junior and senior
high school students to attend the following
schools on a competitive basis. Generally, you
will need to have a 3.8 to attend the U. of M.
For a two year college, juniors need a 3.0 and
seniors require a 2.5 G.P.A. Check the PSOP
office at individual colleges.
