  • We are not trying to give a definition of
    architecture in this cluster.
  • There is no consensus, e.g.,
  • descriptive versus prescriptive
  • aspect-architecture versus views

  • Which architectural areas can be identified?
  • What is the role or position of architecture in
    this area? What is its purpose?
  • How can architecture be characterized in each
    distinct architectural area?
  • Future work how can we relate the architectural
    areas?

Which architectural areas can be identified?
  • The following architectural areas are recognized
    in the papers business, business process,
    information, software, ICT-platform, technical
    infrastructure,
  • Some of these architectural areas overlap, but to
    what extent?
  • Generally speaking, the following three areas are
    identified business, information system and
    infrastructure. Are there more areas?

What is the role and purpose of architecture?
  • With respect to the designer guidelines,
    standards
  • With respect to the user recognition, ease of
    use
  • With respect to the manager insight,
    overview, manageability

How can architecture be characterized?
  • Descriptive architectural elements and the
    structures between the elements
  • ICT architecture
  • business architecture
  • Prescriptive architecture-guided development
    (frameworks, reference architectures), rules and
    guidelines.
  • Scope what is and what isnt covered in an
    architectural area?

Future work How to relate architectural areas?
  • This goes further then the aligns or its
    inverse is-aligned-by relation.
  • Various relations need to be identified for
    issues that must be addressed across
    architectural areas security, governance,
    flexibility, etc.
