Making the Right Decisions
Chip Joseph, M.Ed

Decision making is
  • About you
  • About what you know
  • About how you understand yourself/ others

3
'Comparison, a great teacher told me, is the
cardinal sin of modern life. It traps us in a
game we can't win. Once we define ourselves in
terms of others we lose the freedom to shape our
own lives.' - Jim Collins, Author
4
'To be nobody - but - myself - in a world which
is doing it's best, night and day, to make you
everybody else - means to fight the hardest
battle which any human can fight, and never stop
fighting.' - e e cummings
5
'Alice came to a fork in the road. 'Which one
will I take?' she asked. 'Where do you want to
go?' responded the Cheshire Cat. 'I don't know
Alice answered. 'Then', said the cat, 'It doesn't
matter.'' - Alice in Wonderland

The Rules

4 Types of People to Consider in Making Decisions
  • Type 1 Type 1 individuals have a stake in the
outcome of a decision as well as the expertise to
help make the decision a good one.
  • Type 2 Type 2 individuals have a stake in the
outcome of a decision, but they lack the
expertise to really help make the decision a good
    one.

18
4 Types of People to Consider in Making Decisions
  • Type 3 Type 3 individuals have no stake in the
outcome of the decision, but they do have
tremendous expertise in the decision topic.
  • Type 4 Type 4 individuals have no stake in the
outcome of the decision, and they have no
    expertise in the decision topic.

19
So, Who Do I Involve?
  • Always involve Type 1 people if you can find
    them.
  • Never involve Type 4 people if you can help it.
  • Use discretion and Situational Leadership in
involving Type 2 and Type 3 individuals.
