A reaction is

• A change or transformation that occurs to an
  object.
• A reaction can either be physical or chemical
  depending on its characteristics.

A physical reaction occurs when the matter stays
the same but there is a change in size, shape, or
appearance.
A chemical reaction occurs when the matter
undergoes a change in which the substance results
in a different type of matter, there may also be
a change in color.
