Modern Humans

2
Introduction
The Homo Sapiens Modern Humans lived in about
15,000 B.C. all over the world. They were smarter
than any other species of humans. Their brains
were two to three time as big as the first
species of humans. If you have never read about
early humans, you should because it is really
interesting. We will tell you about one group of
early humans.
3
Physical Apperance

The Homo Sapiens looked much like we do today.
They were shorter, though, and mostly had black
hair. The average male was about five feet, four
inches tall, and the average female was about
four feet, eight inches tall. The men were also
much hairier. They also grew beards faster, and
in addition, more hair grew on their arms and
legs. Thats how the Homo Sapien group of modern
humans looked.
4
DATES AND PLACES
The Modern Humans lived in small villages, where
they planted crops and raised animals. Some
animals they raised were goats and sheep. In
addition, they raised and tamed wolf pups. These
Modern Humans lived about 15,000 years ago. The
Modern Humans lived a long time ago.
5
Shelter

Homes were built out of bricks made from mud and
straw that had dried and hardened in the sun.
Roofs were sometimes thatched with straw and
covered with mud. Some of the houses had many
rooms with floors covered with woven mats made
from rushes. Their houses were pretty sturdy.
6
Food
The Modern Humans collected all the ripe wheat.
Using a mortar and pestle the wheat was ground
into a coarse brown flour and then mixed with
water. Then it was shaped into flat, round loaves
and baked in mud ovens to make a thin hard bread.
As the hunters and gatherers began to settle
down, they learned more about their environment.
They observed the wild grains in different stages
of growth and noticed the conditions that helped
them thrive. At harvest time they did not gather
all of the grain, but left some of the plants so
their seeds could be used for the next season.
This made their survival easier.
7
Daily Life
The transition into farming and herding was a
slow and difficult process. Many Modern Humans
faced such problems as crop-killing insects, bad
weather, and plant and animal diseases. This
caused trouble because it affected the food
supply. After agriculture began, many farmers
still continued to hunt and gather to supplement
their food supplies. Furthermore, many tribes
never adopted the agricultural lifestyle even
though farming did have many advantages,
including a steadier source of food, so they got
lots to eat, and a safer, easier way to get
food.
8
Tools
The Homo Sapiens had very advanced tools for the
time. They didnt have power tools, of course,
but they did have tools like spears, bows and
arrows, hammers, stone knives, and bone needles.
All these tools had many different purposes. For
example, spears were used for hunting and the
needle was used for sewing. The Homo Sapiens were
the most intelligent out of all the previous
species of early humans.
9
Fire
Modern Humans started fire by hitting objects
such as rocks, sticks, and bones together. They
contained the fire by making a ring of stones.
They used fire to cook and keep warm. They also
used fire for light and to scare away predators.
The fire came in handy especially during the cool
seasons.
10
Religion
Modern Humans worshiped many gods and believed in
an afterlife. They had a god for almost
everything, except they did not have a sun or a
moon god. They did, however, have an ocean
goddess, a river goddess, and a food goddess.
Because Modern Humans believed in some sort of
life after death, they buried their dead. The
dead body was carried on a stretcher made of
mammoth hide and bamboo sticks. The family
members of the dead person would throw dirt onto
the corpse, and boys would play a sad melody on a
flute. After the body is buried, the grave was
marked with sticks or stones.
11
Communication
The Modern Humans didnt have communication like
us. They didnt even have a language at all.
Instead, they used grunts, clicks, hand signals,
and other noises to communicate. This is only an
educated guess, for scientists really do not know.
12
Clothing
The clothes that the Modern Humans wore were
sometimes dyed with plant coloring and then made
into clothing. In the cooler weather, Modern
Humans wore clothing made of animal skins. In
warmer weather, Modern Humans would wear thinner
cloth clothing woven out of animal hair.
13
PAINTING AND CARVING
The MODERN HUMANS would paint on cave walls.
They would make their colors from berries and
leaves. They would paint with sticks, leaves, or
their fingers. Most of them would paint timelines
and scenes from their life. The MODERN HUMANS
were very artistic.
14
INTERESTING FACTS
The Modern Humans were the first to herd a group
of animals into a wooden pen and raise them to
eat and help with work. They would also catch and
tame wolf pups. They would train them to guard
the humans when they were asleep.
15
Conclusion
We hope that you enjoyed our presentation about
the Modern Human group of Homo Sapiens and that
you learned a lot about them. Now that you have
seen our slide show, you should be able to answer
these next questions. Good luck!

Modern Humans
  • What was the Homo Sapiens's clothing made of?
What type of change at that time caused their
clothes to be different than the clothing of
    earlier humans?
  • How were Homo Sapiens's homes different from
    humans before them? Why?
  • List at least three types of changes Homo Sapiens
made to make them a more developed and
satisfactory species than other early humans?
