4Definition Heresy
- Websters 1828 Dictionary
- HERESY, n. Gr. to take, to hold L. haeresis.
- 1. A fundamental error in religion, or an error
of opinion respecting some fundamental doctrine
of religion. But in countries where there is an
established church, an opinion is deemed heresy,
when it differs from that of the church.
5Webster Continues
- The Scriptures being the standard of faith, any
opinion that is repugnant to its doctrines, is
heresy In Scripture and primitive usage, heresy
meant merely sect, party, or the doctrines of a
sect, as we now use denomination or persuasion,
implying no reproach.
6- 2. Heresy, in law, is an offense against
christianity, consisting in a denial of some of
its essential doctrines, publicly avowed and
obstinately maintained. - Example We are not perfect.
- What does the bible say about perfection or
righteousness? - 1 John 36, 7
- Ezekiel 321
- Revelation 2211
- Job 11 Genesis 69
- 2 Timothy 316, 17 Philippians 213
- Hebrews 1320, 21
7-
- THOUGHTS FROM THE MOUNT OF BLESSING
-
- The conditions of eternal life, under grace, are
just what they were in Edenperfect
righteousness, harmony with God, perfect
conformity to the principles of His law. The
standard of character presented in the Old
Testament is the same that is presented in the
New Testament. This standard is not one to which
we cannot attain. In every command or injunction
that God gives there is a promise, the most
positive, underlying the command. God has made
provision that we may become like unto Him, and
He will accomplish this for all who do not
interpose a perverse will and thus frustrate His
grace. MB 76.2

Scripture, the only rule of faith and practice. - 2. Any one who maintains erroneous opinions.

12Apostle PaulStory Romans 102, 3
- 2 Corinthians 117-20
- When I therefore was thus minded, did I use
lightness? or the things that I purpose, do I
purpose according to the flesh, that with me
there should be yea yea, and nay nay? But as
God is true, our word toward you was not yea
and nay. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who
was preached among you by us, even by me and
Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but
in him was yea. For all the promises of God in
him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of
God by us. -
13Failing To Stand On, Thus Sayeth The Lord?
- Mark 1515
- Luke 2325
- Galatians 110
- For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek
to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should
not be the servant of Christ.
141 John 218, 19
-
- Little children, it is the last time and as ye
have heard that antichrist shall come, even now
are there many antichrists whereby we know that
it is the last time. They went out from us, but
they were not of us for if they had been of us,
they would no doubt have continued with us but
they went out, that they might be made manifest
that they were not all of us.

fail, heresies will come in among them, which
will sift them, separating the chaff from the

18 What Do Heresies Do?
- 2. THE MINISTRY OF HERESIES SOFTENING
- THE SDA BIBLE COMMENTARY. VOL. 2, p. 1038
- When the holy spirit is abiding in the heart, it
will lead the human agent to see his own defects
of character, to pity the weakness of others, to
forgive as he wishes to be forgiven. - John 810, 11
19Dire WarningChurch
- TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 6, p. 400
- As trials thicken around us, both separation
and unity will be seen in our ranks. Some who are
now ready to take up weapons of warfare will in
times of real peril make it manifest that they
have not built upon the solid rock they will
yield to temptation. Those who have had great
light and precious privileges but have not
improved them will, under one pretext or another,
go out from us.
20TWO EXITS STRATEGIESSAME DESTINATION
- 1. CHOOSEKING AHABS
- 1 KINGS 2234, 35
- 2. CHOOSEJEHUS
- 2 KINGS 1030, 31
- GOD KEEPS US FROM EITHER PERILBUT AT THE SAME
TIME, HE USES IT TO ACCOMPLISH HIS DESIRED
OUTCOME.
213. THE MINISTRY OF HERESIES SUPERFICIALSTUDYING
SCRIPTURE SPIRIT OF PROPHECY
- Acts 1711
- TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 5, p. 707
- There are many in the church who take it for
granted that they understand what they believe
but, until controversy arises, they do not know
their own weakness. Precious light has come,
appropriate for this time. It is Bible truth,
showing the perils that are right upon us. This
light should lead us to a diligent study of the
Scriptures and a most critical examination of the
positions which we hold. . . .
22- The fact that there is no controversy or
agitation among God's people, should not be
regarded as conclusive evidence that they are
holding fast to sound doctrine. There is reason
to fear that they may not be clearly
discriminating between truth and error. When no
new questions are started by investigation of the
Scriptures, when no difference of opinion arises
which will set men to searching the Bible for
themselves, to make sure that they have the
truth, there will be many now, as in ancient
times, who will hold to tradition, and worship
they know not what. many who profess to have a
knowledge of present truth, know not what they
believe. They do not understand the evidences of
their faith. They have no just appreciation of
the work for the present time. When the time of
trial shall come, there are men now preaching to
others, who will find, upon examining the
positions they hold, that there are many things
for which they can give no satisfactory reason.
Until thus tested, they knew not their great
ignorance.
23GodErroneous Theories Into His Church
-
- If God will allow erroneous theories of various
kinds to come in the church in order to lead us
to more of an in-depth study Gods Word, has not
some good been accomplished? - Satan Quotes ScriptureWilderness
- Satan believesand trembleJames 219
- Just because he quotes Scripture , does not mean
he teaches truth. - Just because we get out leaflets, photocopied
materials, and quotations of the Spirit of
Prophecy, does not prove that we are angels of
light.
24TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 8, p. 298
-
- Perilous times are before us The enemy is on
our trackWe must be wide awake, on our guard
against him. We must put on the whole armor of
God. We must follow the directions given through
the spirit of prophecy. We must love and obey the
truth for this time. This will save us from
accepting strong delusions. God has spoken to us
through His word. He has spoken to us through the
testimonies to the church and through the books
that have helped to make plain our present duty
and the position that we should now occupy. God
calls upon us to hold firmly to the fundamental
principles that are based upon unquestionable
authority.

26Detection Counterfeit Versus The Genuine
-
- Several years ago, the united states government
conducted a school in various parts of the
country to teach bank cashiers and others how to
detect counterfeit money. The instruction lasted
for fourteen weeks. How many pieces of
counterfeit did they examine? Not one! The
government instructor knew that what they needed
was a thorough knowledge of the genuine.
27Read Mark 1332-37What event is this text
referring to?
- TESTIMONIES FOR THE CHURCH, VOL. 2, pp. 190-191
-
- Jesus has left us word "Watch ye therefore for
ye know not when the Master of the house cometh,
at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing,
or in the morning lest coming suddenly He find
you sleeping. What time is here referred to? Not
to the revelation of Christ in the clouds of
heaven to find a people asleep. No but to His
return from His ministration in the most holy
place of the heavenly sanctuary, when He lays off
His priestly attire and clothes Himself with
garments of vengeance, and when the mandate goes
forth
28-
- To those who have neglected the preparation of
purity and holiness, which fits them to be
waiting ones to welcome their Lord, the sun sets
in gloom and darkness, and rises not again.
Probation closes Christ's intercessions cease in
heaven. This time finally comes suddenly upon
all, and those who have neglected to purify their
souls by obeying the truth are found sleeping. If
such had only known that the work of Christ in
the heavenly sanctuary would close so soon, how
differently would they have conducted themselves,
how earnestly would they have watched!
29EVANGELISM, p. 138
-
- The Word of God is our sanctification and
righteousness, because it is spiritual food. To
study it is to eat the leaves of the tree of
life.
