Suicide Risk Assessment Knowledge Training Impact

• 101 experienced mental health practitioners were
  provided 8-hours of structured training on
  suicide risk assessment and risk management for
  suicidal consumers of service. Median
  characteristics of the group were

• - Estimated previous training hours 10.0
• - Estimated active suicidal consumers 5.0

Test Design

• An objective 27-item test was developed with four
  sub-scales intended to tap information in
  epidemiology and statistics (8-items), Suicide
  Risk factors (5 items), Suicide Risk Assessment
  (6-items), and Suicide Risk Management (8 items).
  Using a 70 correct pass criterion, the average
  experienced provider failed the pretest, but
  passed the posttest. Only one professional group
  passed the pretest (psychiatrists, N2).

SUMMARY

• Change scores were significant for all groups at
  the p.001 level.
• In summary, these results indicate that the QPRT
  Suicide Risk Management training program
  significantly improved the knowledge of pertinent
  suicide risk and risk management knowledge of the
  participants.
