4In a wetland of marshes, a great many species of
birds are able to feed.
- Sanderlings pluck insects from surface mud
5Plovers pick small crabs and shrimp from muddy
shallows
6The Clapper Rail probes his long bill into mud
for crabs, worms, and other small creatures and
seeds.
7Willets with 5 inch long straight bills are
adapted for eating small burrowing clams and
worms.
8The Spoonbill swings its odd-shaped bill from
side to side in the shallows as it searches for
shellfish, water insects, and small crabs.
9Pointed-bill herons can snatch fish, crabs and
water insects, and even small animals out of the
water.
10Brown pelicans feed by plunging into open water
to catch fish while white pelicans submerge their
heads and scoop up fish while floating.
11- A large number of birds whose habitat is the
marsh have a short, hooked beak designed for
tearing flesh. These include - Hawks and Owls mammals, reptiles, frogs and
insects. - Eagle aquatic animals
12Hawks
13Eagles
14- In addition to body size and shape, each birds
beak has adapted to a particular food source. - Adaptation has provided birds with varied feeding
styles allowing coexistence (sharing of the land)
in habitats.
