or programs. Also means cannot download file
    attachments.
  • Workaround Bring flash drive, CD, or floppy
drive to work on files and save to your network
server. (Instruct your students to do the same)
  • Problems with Lingua Moo working on it.

5
How To Log-in
  • Must have your Network ID and Password
  • Problems with Login
  • Go to netid.utdallas.edu and reset password
  • Go to Helpdesk on Third Floor
  • User name 1st part of UTD email
  • Example mxn0124100_at_utdallas.edu
  • User mxn024100
  • Pass same as the one used for Pipeline email.

6
1st day of Class
  • Go over computer policies (Handout)
  • Make sure students understand how to get a Netid.
  • Students should not use printers in class room.
Instruct them to use printer in computer labs and
    pay with Comet Card.

7
Basic Desktop
8
Look for This Icon
Should show your Netid beneath this Globe
Icon. Double-Click icon to look at files saved on
your folder on the Network Server
9
Note There are folders already listed under
your network folder, Please DONOT delete any of
these files, also instruct your students NOT to
delete any files on the Apple Computers.
10
To Log off Apple computers Click on Apple icon
at top, Then look for Log out and your name.
Note All TAs MUST log off when not using
computers. All Students should logout at
the end of class.
11
All Apple Computers
  • All Apple Computers are automatically scheduled
to turn off each day at 900pm and turn back on
    at 700am each morning.

12
In the top left-hand corner of any program or
browser there are 3 color circles. Red circle
Closes the window Yellow circle minimizes the
window Green circle Brings the window back to
full screen.
13
If you click on the Yellow button, you can
minimize a window, which places it on the
desktop. Click on icon to restore the window
back to full size.
14
To resize your program window Click on lower
right-hand corner and drag in any direction to
make the program window larger or smaller.
15
When you have a program window open, notice at
the bottom, there is a tiny triangle underneath
each program you have opened and/or closed
recently.
16
On the keyboard, hold down the Apple Key (on
lower left side), And press the Q button at the
same time. VERY IMPORTANT You must Apple-Q
all of your programs when you are done. When
done correctly, there should be NO small triangle
beneath any programs. Simple clicking on the RED
circle in upper-left, does not mean the program
Is closed. When you do not use Apple-Q, the
program is still technically running, and It
slows down the memory if too many are
open. PLEASE instruct your students to Apple-Q
all of their programs BEFORE they Log Off of
computer.
17
This is the home page your students will see when
they click on Internet Explorer or Firefox.
18
Once you email me your syllabus, the electronic
version will go here. Your name will be
hyperlinked to your syllabus or personal webpage.
19
Link for Quick Access is for Teacher login only.
The web address for Students is on their student
card.
20
This is a special login site for Rhetoric TAs,
if you do not see the writing reps use your U42
login name, you may not be able to access
account.

23
Microsoft Office Word
The 1st time you click on Word this install
will run. Should take only a couple of minutes
to run.
24
When this menu appears, click on Word Document
and then Open
25
When you save a file, click on File and Save
As..
26
Important Note STRONGLY suggest that all TAs
and students only save their files on their
server folder space. You can put documents on
desktop, but it will eat up Memory on computers,
plus you cannot find these files if you move to
another computer.
27
When you save your file in your Server folder,
you should be able to see it, and find it no
matter what Rhetoric computer you are using.
28
Click on File and then click on New Folder to
create a folders in your Server space.
29
The new file will say untitled folder. If you
click inside the blue area, you can then rename
the file.
30
Now I can drag my files into the personal folder
I have created on my server space.
31
How to properly remove external media
If you use a flash drive, there are USB slots at
the back of the computer.
Do NOT just pull out your flash drive when you
are done. There are two ways you can remove
flash drives without damaging them.
Method 1 Since Apple Mouses only have one
button, you can hold down The Ctrl key while
you click one-time on the flash drive icon on the
desktop. This will give you a small menu.
(similar to right-click on a PC)
32
Method 2 if you double-click on the Flash drive
icon, you should see this window that shows all
the computers hard drives as well as your server
folder. Click on the underlined triangle icon
next to the flash drive. This will also eject
the flash drive. Once the Flash drive icon
disappears from the desktop, it is now save to
remove the media device.
33
Clean up your Trash
If you save any files to the desktop or delete
files from your server folder, you can simply
click and drag the document icons to your Trash
can in the lower right- hand corner of your Apple
desktop.
But you are not done yet! Click on the Trash
icon to open it up.
34
Click on Finder and then click on Empty
Trash. Click ok to permanently delete your
files. Once this is done, files cannot be
recovered.
