COMPUTER HARDWAREPARTS OF THE COMPUTER

• INSIDE COMPONENTS - Found inside the case, out
  of plain view.
• OUTSIDE COMPONENTS - Some items may be inside the
  case, but they are all visible when in use.

INSIDE COMPONENTS

• CPU (Central Processing Unit) A thin silicon
  board that contains integrated electronic
  circuits. Many chips are involved in making the
  computer operate.

INSIDE COMPONENTS

• Motherboard (System board) The main circuit
  board inside your computer to which all hardware
  is connected.

INSIDE COMPONENTS

• RAM (Random Access Memory) Temporary memory of
  the computer where programs and information are
  kept. The contents of this memory are volatile,
  and lost when the computer is turned off.

• Hard disk (drive) A fixed storage disk inside
  the computer, comprised of layers of metal
  platters, that stores the operating system and
  most data.

• VIDEO CARD (Graphics Adapter) A device in
  computers that deals specifically with displaying
  to a monitor.

• SOUND CARD A peripheral device in the form of a
  card used for producing sound and music.

• MODEM (Modulation/Demodulation) A DEVICE THAT
  ALLOWS COMPUTERS TO COMMUNICATE , EXCHANGE DAT
  A, AND CONNECT TO THE INTERNET OVER TELEPHONE
  LINES.

• NETWORK CARD (Fast Ethernet Card) (NIC -Network
  Interface Card ) A card used to interconnect
  computers for file or Internet connection
  sharing. Also used to connect to a external cable
  or DSL modem.

• CASE Used to house the power supply ,
  motherboard, peripheral cards, memory, floppy
  drive, hard drives, and CD-ROMs.

• FLOPPY DISK DRIVE A drive to read and write to 3
  1/2 1.44 MB floppy magnetic media.

• CD-ROM (Compact Disc-Read Only Memory) A
  tray-loaded disc drive that is used to read
  compact discs.

• CD-RW (Compact Disc-Rewriter) A device that is
  capable of recording data to a special recordable
  CD.

• DVD-ROM DRIVE (Digital Video Disc-Read Only
  Memory) A tray-loaded disc drive that plays DVDs
  as well as CDs.

• DVD-R/RW (Digital Video Disc-READ/REWRITE) A
  tray-loaded disc drive that plays DVDs and is
  capable of recording data to a special recordable
  DVDs.

• MONITOR A screen that shows your desktop, or
  other display your computer is producing (e.g.,
  screensavers, or game screens).

• KEYBOARD An input device used to type data into
  your computer. Many keys are the same as those on
  a typewriter, though the computer keyboard does
  have many different keys to perform specific
  computer functions.

  interact with the computer by controlling the
  location and action of the cursor on the screen.
