3Scholarship To Dos
- Although some scholarships are not based on
academic achievement, do your best to excel in
the classroom - Do more than what your major requires, be
involved - Contact the Office of Campus Activities for ideas
- Community service activities do them, theyre
fun! - Get involved in extracurricular activities and
clubs - Looks great on a resume
4Scholarship To Dos (cont)
- Do the essay! Its worth it (possibly required)!
Check the guidelines for the essay oftentimes,
the selection committee is trying to get a feel
for who you are, your family circumstance, your
future plans and goals - Keep a copy of every scholarship application you
submit you might be able to re-use the
application information or the essay - Apply! You wont know if youll receive the
scholarship unless you apply. YOU could be the
only applicant who is eligible
5Scholarship Donts
- Do NOT pay for a scholarship search. If it
sounds too good to be true, it probably is. - Ask the Student Financial Aid Office about
legitimate opportunities/questionable
solicitations. Thats part of our job. - Scholarship search companies (who charge a fee)
guarantee theyll find you financial aid what
they dont tell you is its in the form of loans
every student is eligible for
6When do I begin my search?
- Scholarships are updated in late fall/early
spring online for the coming academic year. - Most have deadlines dates with some beginning
January 1st. - Find a scholarshipcontact your college office
