2Rounding Decimals
To round a decimal to a given place value, look
at the digit in the place to the right.
If the digit to the right is 4 or less, keep the
given place value the same. If
the digit to the right is 5 or greater, round up.
Lets try some!
1.3 (nearest one)
3 is the number to the right and it is 4 or less,
so the number stays the same.
1.3 rounded to the nearest one 1
3Rounding Decimals Cont.
2.8 (nearest one)
8 is the number to the right and it is 5 and up,
so 2 increases to 3.

below, so 7 stays the same.
3.74 rounded to the nearest tenth 3.7

5Extra Tips on Rounding Decimals
Tip 1 Make sure your answer is rounded to the
decimal place specified. If it says hundredths,
the last digit should be in the hundredths. If
it says ones place, make sure there is no decimal
or any number after it.
Tip 2 Do NOT put zeros in for fillers! Refer
back to the 1st tip.
