  • This set of slides is intended to support the
    development of a personal Quality Function
    Deployment (QFD)
  • Please do not attempt to use these slides as part
    of a presentation until you have read and fully
    understood the relevant sections of Managing by
    Design, you know how each slide builds, and you
    are clear on the points you wish to make with them

MANAGEMENT OBJECTIVES
  • What do you want to result from your tenure?
  • Growth in performance?
  • Greater competency in your people?
  • More systematic approaches to work?
  • Greater customer influence?
  • Increased staff satisfaction?
  • Fulfilling corporate strategic expectations?
  • ?
  • Identify what you most want to achieve, and
    write each item down clearly and specifically on
    a separate sticky note.

THE AFFINITY DIAGRAM
  • In silence
  • Move one post-it note at a time to create clumps
    of similar achievements ones that can be
    usefully grouped into one larger objective
  • Dont be held to the patterns and groups you
    first see, but allow them to evolve.
  • Develop and split the groups so that they can be
    summarised as a clear and simple objective (eg
    Ensure customer satisfaction)
  • Summarise each of the groups into a clear
    objective for your role over the coming year(s)

WEIGHTING THE OBJECTIVES
  • Rank the objectives in relative order of
    importance
  • Mark the highest ranked objective with an
    importance of 5
  • Rank each other objective relative to the first
    objective on a scale of 1-5

MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES
  • How do (should) you currently spend your time?
  • Review of diary based activities
  • Review of calendar
  • Activities required to support the objectives
  • Things you feel you ought to be doing
  • Things that you would like to do
  • ?
  • Write down each activity on a separate sticky
    note
