  • Gen. 3014. And Reuben went in the days of wheat
harvest, and found mandrakes in the field, and
brought them unto his mother Leah. Then Rachel
said to Leah, Give me, I pray thee, of thy son's
    mandrakes. (Fertility stimulant)
  • 15. And she said unto her, Is it a small matter
that thou hast taken away my husband? and
wouldest thou take away my son's mandrakes also?
And Rachel said, Therefore he shall lie with thee
    to-night for thy son's mandrakes.
  • 16. And Jacob came from the field in the
evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said,
Thou must come in unto me for I have surely
    hired thee with my son's mandrakes. . . . 17.
And God hearkened unto Leah, and she conceived,

JACOBS CONFESSION THE NEW NAME
GEN. 3222. And he passed over the ford Jabbok.
24. And Jacob was left alone and there wrestled
a man with him until the breaking of the day.
25. And when he saw that he prevailed not
against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh
and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint,
as he wrestled with him. 26. And he said, Let
me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will
not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27. And
he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said,
Jacob. 28. And he said, Thy name shall be
called no more Jacob, but Israel for as a prince
hast thou power with God and with men, and hast
prevailed.
8
Jacob Wrestles With God, His Name is Changed to
Israel, Meaning Rule With God
  • 3224. And Jacob was left alone and there
wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the
    day.
  • 25. And when he saw that he prevailed not
against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh
and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint,
    as he wrestled with him.
  • 26. And he said, Let me go, for the day
breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go,
    except thou bless me.

9
Jacobs Name is Changed
  • And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou
    bless me
  • 32 27. And he said unto him, What is thy name?
    And he said, Jacob.
  • 28. And he said, Thy name shall be called no
more Jacob, but Israel (to rule with God) for as
a prince hast thou power with God and with men,
    and hast prevailed.
  • A Confession of His Old Name Qualifies him for
the New Name! --- Because he overcame. Rev.
    217

10
The Angels Name is Of No Consequence
  • 29. And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I
pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it
that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed
    him there.
  • 30. And Jacob called the name of the place
Peniel for I have seen God face to face, and my
    life is preserved. Ex. 3320
  • 31. And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose
upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
  • 32. Therefore the children of Israel eat not of
the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow
of the thigh, unto this day because he touched
the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that
    shrank.

11
Lessons from This
  • The Divine Blessing comes by Struggle
  • It will endure through the nightHang on!
  • Your tenacity determines your evaluation of the
    blessing.
  • The struggle will bring handicaps that will
    follow you throughout life.

12
Jacob Returns to Bethel
  • 35 9. And God appeared unto Jacob again, when
he came out of Padanaram, and blessed him.
  • 10. And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob
thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but
Israel shall be thy name and he called his name
    Israel.
  • 11. And God said unto him, I am God Almighty
be fruitful and multiply a nation and a company
of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come
    out of thy loins
  • 12. And the land which I gave Abraham and
Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed
after thee will I give the land.
  • 13. And God went up from him in the place where
    he talked with him.
  • DEBORAH AND RACHEL DIE

13
Recall Gods word to AbrahamOnce Spoken, the
Word of God Cannot be Offset
  • 15 13. And he said unto Abram, Know of a surety
that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that
is not theirs, and shall serve them and they
shall afflict them four hundred years
  • 14. And also that nation, whom they shall
serve, will I judge and afterward shall they
    come out with great substance.
  • The dialogue will now reveal how this will
    transpire

14
How will they Come to be in A Land that is not
theirs?
  • Gods ways are Mysterious
  • God Selects Joseph for Preserver Gen. 37
  • Intense hatred/rejection get him to Egypt.
  • 378. And they hated him yet the more for his
    dreams, and for his words.
  • 3728 and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for
twenty pieces of silver and they brought Joseph
    into Egypt.
  • NOTE How this reminds of Pauls journey to Rome

15
GEN. 38 Divine Judgment/Selfish Determination
Cannot Offset the Word of God Genesis 38
  • Promise is to be through Judah 4910
  • Two sons (Er, Onan) die childless both BY Tamar
  • Judah postpones Levirate marriage to his youngest
    Son
  • Tamar, impatient, tricks Judah into adultery by
playing the harlot and secures his signet
bracelets, and staff. And he gave them to her,
and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.
  • When her pregnancy is discovered they would put
her to death, but she produced Judahs articles
and was spared. One of the twins she bore, Perez,
was in the lineage of Christ

16
Hatred and Envy Falls OUT to the Fulfilling of
the Word
  • 3. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all his
children, because he was the son of his old age
and he made him a coat of many colours.
  • 4. And when his brethren saw that their father
loved him more than all his brethren, they hated
him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.
  • 5. And Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it
his brethren and they hated him yet the more.

17
Gods Word Cannot Be Offset by Destroying Joseph
  • NOT BY HIS BRETHREN WHO HATED HIM
  • 3719. And they said one to another, Behold,
    this dreamer cometh.
  • 20. Come now therefore, and let us slay him,
and cast him into one of the pits, and we will
say, And evil beast hath devoured him and we
shall see what will become of his dreams.
  • 21. And Reuben heard it, and delivered him out
of their hand, and said, Let us not take his
    life.

18
  • 22. And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood
cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness,
but lay no hand upon him that he might deliver
him out of their hand, to restore him to his
    father.
  • 28. And there passed by Midianites, merchantmen
and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the
pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for
twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph
    into Egypt.

19
Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the
guard
  • 3920. And Joseph's master took him, and put him
into the prison, the place where the king's
prisoners were bound and he was there in the
prison. 21. But Jehovah was with Joseph, and
showed kindness unto him, and gave him favor in
the sight of the keeper of the prison. 22. And
the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph's
hand all the prisoners that were in the prison
and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer of
    it.

20
  • 23. The keeper of the prison looked not to
anything that was under his hand, because Jehovah
was with him and that which he did, Jehovah made
    it prosper.
  • Because of his character, and gift of dream
interpretation, he eventual was made governor of
Egypt and brought his family into Egypt where
    they thrived for 400 years.

21
Josephs prophetic Dreams Are Fulfilled.
  • 42 6. And Joseph was the governor over the
land, and he it was that sold to all the people
of the land and Joseph's brethren came, and
bowed down themselves before him with their faces
    to the earth.

22
Genuine Repentance
  • 4431. It shall come to pass, when he seeth that
the lad is not with us, that he will die and thy
servants shall bring down the gray hairs of thy
servant our father with sorrow to the grave.
  • 32. For thy servant became surety for the lad
unto my father, saying, If I bring him not unto
thee, then I shall bear the blame to my father
    for ever.
  • 33. Now therefore, I pray thee, let thy servant
abide instead of the lad a bondman to my lord
and let the lad go up with his brethren.
  • (Judah had saved Josephs life, 3726)
  • 34. For how shall I go up to my father, and the
lad be not with me? lest peradventure I see the
evil that shall come on my father.

23
Josephs View of All that had Happened
  • 455. Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry
with yourselves, that ye sold me hither for God
did send me before you to preserve life.
  • 6. For these two years hath the famine been in
the land and yet there are five years, in the
which there shall neither be earing nor harvest.
  • 7. And God sent me before you to preserve you a
posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by
    a great deliverance.
  • 8. So now it was not you that sent me hither,
but God and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh,
and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout
    all the land of Egypt.

24
JOSEPH DIES IN EGYPT B UT DESIRES TO BE MOVED.
20. But as for you, ye thought evil against me
but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as
it is this day, to save much people alive. 21.
Now therefore fear ye not I will nourish you,
and your little ones. And he comforted them, and
spake kindly unto them. 22. And Joseph dwelt in
Egypt, he, and his father's house and Joseph
lived an hundred and ten years. 23. And Joseph
saw Ephraim's children of the third generation
the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh
were brought up upon Joseph's knees. 24. And
Joseph said unto his brethren, I die and God
will surely visit you, and bring you out of this
land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to
Isaac, and to Jacob. 25. And Joseph took an oath
of the children of Israel, saying, God will
surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones
from hence. 26. So Joseph died, being an
hundred and ten years old and they embalmed him,
and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

Because I drew him out of the water.

Shall I go and call to thee a nurse of the Hebrew
women, that she may nurse the child for thee?

the maid went and called the child's mother.

give thee thy wages. And the woman took the
    child, and nursed it.

Moses Slays an Egyptianflees End of First 40
years (Acts 723)
  • 11. And it came to pass in those days, when
Moses was grown, that he went out unto his
brethren, and looked on their burdens and he
spied an Egyptian smiting an Hebrew, one of his
    brethren.
  • 12. And he looked this way and that way, and
when he saw that there was no man, he slew the
Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.
  • 13. And when he went out the second day,
behold, two men of the Hebrews strove together
and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore
    smitest thou thy fellow?
  • 14. And he said, Who made thee a prince and a
judge over us? intendest thou to kill me, as thou
killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and
said, Surely this thing is known.
  • 15. Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he
sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the
face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian

33
WORKS 40 YEARS (Ex. 77) IN MIDIAN AS A SHEPHERD
FOR HIS FATHER-IN-LAW
  • Ex 321. And Moses was content to dwell with the
man and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.
  • 22. And she bare him a son, and he called his
name Gershom for he said, I have been a stranger
    in a strange land.
  • 23. And it came to pass in process of time,
that the king of Egypt died and the children of
Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they
cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason
    of the bondage.

34
80 years of age (Ex. 77)
  • EX.31. Now Moses was keeping the flock of
Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian
and he led the flock to the back of the
wilderness, and came to the mountain of God, unto
    Horeb.
  • 2. And the angel of Jehovah appeared unto him in
a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush and
he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with
fire, and the bush was not consumed.

35
  • 3. And Moses said, I will turn aside now, and
see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt.
  • 4. And when Jehovah saw that he turned aside to
see, God called unto him out of the midst of the
bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here
    am I.
  • 5. And he said, Draw not nigh hither put off
thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place
whereon thou standest is holy ground.

36
  • 10. Come now therefore, and I will send thee
unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my
people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
  • 11. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I
should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring
forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
  • 12. And he said, Certainly I will be with thee
and this shall be the token unto thee, that I
have sent thee when thou hast brought forth the
people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this
    mountain.

37
  • 13. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I
come unto the children of Israel, and shall say
unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me
unto you and they shall say to me, What is his
name? What shall I say unto them?
  • 14. And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM
and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the
children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

38
  • 15. And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt
thou say unto the children of Israel, Jehovah,
the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the
God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me
unto you this is my name forever, and this is my
    memorial unto all generations.

39
  • 351. And Moses answered and said, But, behold,
they will not believe me, nor hearken unto my
voice for they will say, Jehovah hath not
    appeared unto thee.
  • 2. And Jehovah said unto him, What is that in
thy hand? And he said, A rod.
  • 3. And he said, Cast in on the ground. And he
cast it on the ground, and it became a serpent
and Moses fled from before it.
  • 4. And Jehovah said unto Moses, Put forth thy
hand, and take it by the tail (and he put forth
his hand, and laid hold of it, and it became a
    rod in his hand)
  • 5. That they may believe that Jehovah, the God
of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of
Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath appeared unto
    thee.

40
  • 6. And Jehovah said furthermore unto him, Put
now thy hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand
into his bosom and when he took it out, behold,
his hand was leprous, as white as snow.
  • 7. And he said, Put thy hand into thy bosom
again. (And he put his hand into his bosom again
and when he took it out of his bosom, behold, it
was turned again as his other flesh.)
  • 8. And it shall come to pass, if they will not
believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the
first sign, that they will believe the voice of
    the latter sign.

41
  • 10. And Moses said unto Jehovah, Oh, Lord, I am
not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou
hast spoken unto thy servant for I am slow of
speech, and of a slow tongue.
  • 11. And Jehovah said unto him, Who hath made
man's mouth? Or who maketh a man dumb, or deaf,
or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, Jehovah?
  • 12. Now therefore go, and I will be with thy
mouth, and teach thee what thou shalt speak.

42
  • 17. And thou shalt take in thy hand this rod,
wherewith thou shalt do the signs.
  • 18. And Moses went and returned to Jethro his
father-in-law, and said unto him, Let me go, I
pray thee, and return unto my brethren that are
in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. And
Jethro said to Moses, Go in peace.
  • 19. And Jehovah said unto Moses in Midian, Go,
return into Egypt for all the men are dead that
    sought thy life.
  • 20. And Moses took his wife and his sons, and
set them upon an ass, and he returned to the land
of Egypt and Moses took the rod of God in his
    hand.

43
  • 1. And afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said
unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of
Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a
feast unto me in the wilderness.
  • 2. And Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I
should hearken unto his voice to let Israel go? I
know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let
    Israel go.

    Israel go.

46
Gods Reply to Pharaoh
  • 12. For I will go through the land of Egypt in
that night, and will smite all the first-born in
the land of Egypt, both man and beast and
against all the gods of Egypt I will execute
    judgments I am Jehovah.

47
The Lord Shall Mock the Gods of Egypt
  • The gods of Egypt were spirits that used the
    forms of every conceivable animal.
  • Hapi god of the Nile
  • Heqt image of a frog
  • Uachit image of a fly
  • Imhotep god of sickness
  • Horus sum god (Re) image of hawk

48
Jehovah Turns the Nile god into a Curse. The Lord
is the only God
  • 20. And Moses and Aaron did so, as Jehovah
commanded and he lifted up the rod, and smote
the waters that were in the river, in the sight
of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants and
all the waters that were in the river were turned
    to blood.
  • 21. And the fish that were in the river died
and the river became foul, and the Egyptians
could not drink water from the river and the
blood was throughout all the land of Egypt.

49
THE MAGICIANS DUPLICATE
  • 22. And the magicians of Egypt did in like
manner with their enchantments and Pharaoh's
heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto
    them as Jehovah had spoken.
  • 23. And Pharaoh turned and went into his house,
neither did he lay even this to heart.
  • 24. And all the Egyptians digged round about
the river for water to drink for they could not
drink of the water of the river.
  • 25. And seven days were fulfilled, after that
    Jehovah had smitten the river.

50
Jehovah Turns the Frog god into a Curse. He alone
is God.
  • 5. And Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron,
Stretch forth thy hand with thy rod over the
rivers, over the streams, and over the pools, and
cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt.
  • 6. And Aaron stretched out his hand over the
waters of Egypt and the frogs came up, and
    covered the land of Egypt.

51
Jehovah Turns The Lice God into A Curse. Jehovah
is the only True God
  • 16. And Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron,
Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the
earth, that is may become lice throughout all the
    land of Egypt.
  • 17. And they did so and Aaron stretched out
his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the
earth, and there were lice upon man, and upon
beast all the dust of the earth became lice

3 MONTHS TO SINAI---First Covenant Made
(191) Israel had broken their temporary earthly
covenant with God, but a New permanent
Covenant would be made that would include all
people The temporary Covenant was written on
earthly tables for a fleshly family, but the new
would be written on the Heart for a spiritual
family. Election of God was for all believers in
Christs atonement.
70
  • 31. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that
I will make a new covenant with the house of
Israel, and with the house of Judah
  • 32. Not according to the covenant that I made
with their fathers in the day that I took them by
the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt
which my covenant they brake, although I was an
husband unto them, saith the Lord
  • 33. But this shall be the covenant that I will
make with the house of Israel After those days,
saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward
parts, and write it in their hearts and will be
their God, and they shall be my people.
  • POSED A PROBLEM How could this be???

71
Thus We Now Have The New Covenant Relationship
  • 14. Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances
that was against us, which was contrary to us,
and took it out of the way, nailing it to his
    cross
  • I Pet. 29. But ye are a elect race, a royal
priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own
possession, that ye may show forth the
excellencies of him who called you out of
    darkness into his marvellous light

72
Our Covenant is made at our deliverance by the
atoning death of Jesus
  • Heb. 912. Neither by the blood of goats and
calves, (104) but by his own blood he entered in
once into the holy place, having obtained eternal
redemption for us. 13. For if the blood of
bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer
sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the
purifying of the flesh 14. How much more shall
the blood of Christ, who through the eternal
Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge
your conscience from dead works to serve the
    living God?
  • I Pet. 314. Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye
look for such things, be diligent that ye may be
found of him in peace, without spot, and
    blameless.

73
  • The old covenant was kept by the blood of animals
being repeatedly sprinkled upon the contents of
    the tabernacle -- temple.
  • The new covenant is kept by the blood of Jesus
having been, and continually being sprinkled upon
the contents in the SPIRITUAL temple of the
    heart. . . .
  • The conscience contained all the defilement of
sin. Constant sprinkling enables the Holy Spirit
to dwell in it and sanctifies our worship and
service so that we can draw nigh to God. (Behind
    the curtain)
  • HEB 1022. let us draw near with a true heart in
fulness of faith, having our hearts sprinkled
from an evil conscience (Acceptance of service)
and having our body washed with pure water.
    (Entrance permissible)

74
THE Old Covenants Mission was to Possess the
Earthly Land of the Heathen
  • OUR New Covenant Mission is similar in spirit . .
. By bringing the nations into the spiritual
    kingdom of God.
  • Matt. 2819. Go ye therefore, and teach all
nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost
  • 20. Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo, I am
with you alway, even unto the end of the world.
    Amen.
  • 2 Tm. 2 2. And the things which thou hast heard
from me among many witnesses, the same commit
thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach
    others also.

Jesus gave the Combination to Nicodemus
  • 5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto
thee, Except a man be born of water and of the
Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
  • By washing in water the priest could enter the
    temple.
  • By the sprinkling of blood their service was
    acceptable to God.
  • Thus the combination, water and the blood

76
Jesus entered the Heavenly Temple by Water and
the Blood
  • John 1934. But one of the soldiers with a spear
pierced his side, and forthwith came there out
    blood and water.

77
As this institutes the Spiritual Age, we have
John saying
  • I John 58. And there are three that bear
witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and
the blood and these three agree in one.

78
Becoming a Child of God In the Spirit then is

among you shall be circumcised. 11. And ye shall

spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a
discerner of the thoughts and intents of the
    heart.
  • ACTS 237. Now when they heard this, they were

Spirits gift of life to the man raised from dead
  • Rom. 6 3. Know ye not, that so many of us as
were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized
    into his death?
  • 4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism
into death that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so
we also should walk in newness of life. 5. For
if we have been planted together in the likeness
of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of
his resurrection 6. Knowing this, that our old
man is crucified with him, that the body of sin
might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not
    serve sin.
  • 7. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

87

    God
  • Ps. 801 thou that leadest Joseph like a flock

    forth.
  • Ps. 991 The Lord reigneth let the people

unto you, to make an atonement for the children
of Israel for all their sins once a year. And
he did as the Lord commanded Moses.

93
But was formality enough?
What about Mercy/grace?
  • Hos. 6 6. For I desired mercy, and not
sacrifice and the knowledge of God more than
    burnt offerings.
  • Matt. 913. But go ye and learn what that
meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice
for I am not come to call the righteous, but
    sinners to repentance.
  • Matt. 12 7. But if ye had known what this
meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye
would not have condemned the guiltless.
  • Never worship as a mere ritual. The right
attitude of heart is indispensable to acceptable
    worship.

94
Jesus alone was the fulfillment of the true
meaning of the Ark of the Covenant
  • He is Gods covenant to man, his mercy, his
atonement, his acceptable sacrifice, his just
    requirement.
  • Rom. 83. For what the law could not do, in
that it was weak through the flesh, God sending
his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and
for sin, condemned sin in the flesh
  • 4. That the righteousness of the law might be
fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh,
    but after the Spirit.
  • 5. For they that are after the flesh do mind
the things of the flesh but they that are after
the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
  • 6. For to be carnally minded is death but to
be spiritually minded is life and peace.
  • Let our prayers rise from humility of heart
realizing that the atonement at the ark was but a
    shadow of Jesus to come.

95
The Table of Showbread

dishes and incense holders (Le. 245dff)
  • Eaten every Sabbath by Aaron sons.
  • New loaves and incense were placed there weekly.

96
Meaning of the Showbread

some of the manna from heaven was placed in the
ark for remembrance by future generations, so the
loaves were on the table continually. It was
called the bread of the Presence (Ex. 164,33).
God was ever caring and providing for His people.
He was always present (Dt. 32. Is. 4010-11, I
    Cor. 103).

side, making seven. The cups on each branch
burned with pure olive oil from evening til
morning. (Ex. 2720ff) They were cleaned each
morning and kept in immaculate condition.

98
Meaning of the Lampstand
  • It is obviously connected with light. The
meaning was far beyond formality. As the light
penetrated every part of the holy place, so does
God the heart Jesus said that He (His teaching)
is light in the worlds darkness (Jn. 812) To
receive Jesus into the heart is to receive the
love of his teaching concerning what to do to be
saved, how to worship, and how to live a holy
    acceptable life.
  • Jesus said we are the light of the world
(reflective of the light of his teaching (Mt.
    514).
  • Light is a servant and never served, so are his
disciples. Never should the Christian life
    become a dull routine.
  • Mt. 516 Let your light so shine.

  • Amos 521. I hate, I despise your feast days,
and I will not smell in your solemn assemblies.

were praying without at the time of incense.
  • Rev. 84. And the smoke of the incense, which
came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up
before God out of the angel's hand.
  • Prayer is not a ritual to be said at set
intervals. It is a privilegethe heart communing
    with God in deep reverence

The Meaning of the Altar of Sacrifice
  • The killings and blood cleansing offering were
done over and over for centuries. Without a deep
spiritual mind one can see how that the priests
could become bored, even disgusted. To the deep
spiritual mind who sought to penetrate the
reasons, it would become evident with an
increasing awareness of the principle of the
innocent being sacrificed for the guilty. This
should have been evident in the offering of Jesus
, and was to many like Paul (I Cor. 57)

102
The Great Tragedy
  • The Priests missed the spiritual implications of
the tabernacle and temple worship system. They
became mercenary with the sacrifices and turned
the temple into a den of thieves.
  • Christ was the sanctuary of God on earth, the
mercy, the altar atonement, light, life, bread,
and communion of God with men.
  • So sad, that many have apparently turned worship
into entertainment. For many the singing,
praying, the Lords supper, giving and preaching
seem to have become mechanical acts of ritualism

103
Disrespect for Worship as God Would Have it
Idolatry Emerges Read Exodus 32-34
  • Moses was forty days in the Mt. Receiving Gods
    Word.
  • Aaron bows to pressure from the people to make a
    golden calf.
  • Moses returns, in anger breaks the ten
    commandments,

104
  • All things pointed to the coming of Jesus, His
church, and to final salvation in heaven.

THE SABBATH SYSTEM
113
The Pyramidical Sabbatical system
  • There was the weekly Sabbath celebrated each 7th
day because God rested from creation on the 7th
    dayGen. 22-3 Ex. 1622-30 208-11
  • HOW WERE THE JEWS SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE WEEKLY
    SABBATH? WHY?
  • 1. 2 male lambs were sacrificed as burnt
offerings, along with cereal and drink offerings.
  • 1. No work was to be done.. They were to cook
sufficiently on the 6th day for the next. No
traveling was to be done (Ex. 1623-30).
  • 2. Penalty for breaking the Sabbath was death
    (Ex. 3115 Nu, 1532)
  • WHAT WERE THE JEWS SUPPOSED TO LEARN FROM THIS?

114
The New Moon Monthly Sabbath
  • 1. Offering of 2 young bulls
  • 2. One ram and 7 male lambs a year old without
    blemish.
  • 3. Flour, oil and wine were also offered
  • 4. A male goat was sacrificed as a sin offering.
  • All theses offering were in addition to the
    regular daily and Sabbath offerings.
  • Num. 2811-15

115
The Seventh Sabbatical Month
  • 1. At the beginning of the month trumpets were
blown signifying the beginning of a holy day
    (Lev. 2323-25 Nu. 291)
  • 2. One young bull, one ram, seven male lambs a
year old without blemish accompanied with cereal
offerings were offered as a pleasing odor to the
    Lord (Num. 292-6)
  • 3. According to the Jews observance of the New
Moon Sabbath was symbolic of surrender to the
Lord. This was called a day of gladness as
trumpets were blown over the burnt and peace
    offerings. (Num. 1010)

116
The Seventh Sabbatical Month
  • 4. What were they to do and learn from the
    monthly sabbath?
  • 4. The Jews gradually drifted from the spiritual
significance of the Sabbaths. Amos 84-6) Says
that they were glad when they were ovcer so they
    could sell grain.

117
The 7th or Sabbatical year
  • For additional emphasis God prescribed the
observance of a Sabbatic year for Israel (Ex.
    2310-11 Lev. 252-7) Deut. 151-18 3110-13).
  • In the seventh year the land was left unplowed,
unsown, and unharvested by the owner. Any crops
which germinated naturally were for the slaves to
gather and the animals to eat (Lev. 252-7)

118
Jubilee or 50th Year Sabbath
  • In order for Israel to reach a pinnacle height of
spiritual observance twice each century, God gave
the year of Jubilee (5oth). The land was to be
left unplowed and the people ceased from all
physical work (Lev. 258-34 2717-24 Num.
    364).
  • The year began on the annual Atonement Day (Lev.
    1629, 259) on the 10th day of Tishra (7th
month). It began with trumpet blowing (Lev.
    259) and with Jubilee (loud shouting).

119
  • Since it was preceded by a sabbatical year
(49th), God said if they were faithful He would
provide an abundant crop year in the 6th and 48th
year (Lev. 258) and with fruit for three years
    Lev. 2521).
  • All land was to be returned to the original
owner, and all indentured servants freed and
    debts forgiven (Lev. 2513-55).

120
Note the Accumulations of Sabbaths, special days
and years leading to the 50th year.
  • 1. Approx. 2,184 regular Sabbaths plus special
Sabbaths (feasts). All Sabbath days in the 7th
year and in the year of Jubilee were omitted
because the entire year was a Sabbath of
    cessation of laborious work.
  • 2. Each year the 7th months was observed as a
    Sabbatic month.

121
  • 3. The 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 35th, 42nd, and
    49th were Sabbatic years
  • 4. The 50th year followed the 49th which meant
two Sabbath years in a row twice per century were
to eb observed. God would provide for them (Lev.
    2519-22).

122
  • THE SPIRITUAL APPLICATION
  • The Sabbath, seventh month, Sabbatic year, and
Jubilee year all were joined in principle and
should have portrayed increasingly for the
Israelite the supremacy of the SPIRITUAL over the
PHYSICAL.Every seventh day, he was re minded in
cessation from labor that it was God ordained.

123
  • As God ceased from creation (Gen. 22-3), so man
ceased his daily work which was a means in
contemplation of the end eternal life. Because
of sin, the joy and blessings of God's original
creation were lost in toil, sweat, and labor. But
each Sabbath was a reminder that God would
eventually redeem man. Thus, every seven days he
should have appreciated anew God's pledge of
eternal blessing when man enters his True
Restfellowship with God apart from sin.

124
The Seventh month was inaugurated by the special
holy day and blowing of trumpets. It introduced
the month in which the annual atonement and feast
of the tabernacles was celebrated. It should have
reminded the rulers, priests and nation that God
had blessed them, through the year and had
providentially met their every need.
