Tahara Course-2
  • Taught by Hacene Chebbani

Chapter Two Types of Najasaat
  • 6- Menstrual Blood
  • Narrated Asma Bint Abu Bakr (r) A woman
came to the Prophet (pbuh) and said When one of
us finds her garments stained with menstrual
blood, what should she do? He (pbuh) replied
She should scrape it, then scrub it with water,
then sprinkle it, then she may pray in it
    Bukhari and Muslim.

3
Types of Najasaat
  • 7- Dog Saliva
  • Narrated Abu Huraira (r) that Allahs Messenger
  • (pbuh) said If a dog licks the dish of one of
    you,
  • he should wash it seven times, the first time
    with
  • clean soil (Muslim)
  • 8- Dead Animals
  • Those animals which died a natural death, or by
accident, without being slaughtered according to
    the sharia.
  • The skin of a dead animal when tanned, then it is
purified. The Prophet (pbuh) said If the skin
of a dead animal is tanned, it is purified
    (Muslim/Abu Dawood).

4
What is excluded from 8?
  • Dead fish and locusts
  • Narrated Ibn Umar (r) that Allahs Messenger
(pbuh) said Two dead things and two kinds of
blood have been made permissible to us As for
the two dead things, they are fish and locuts.
And as for the two kinds of blood, they are the
    liver and the spleen. (Bayhaqi)
  • Dead things which have no flowing blood
  • Narrated Abu Huraira (r) that Allahs Messenger
(pbuh) said If a fly lands in a vessel
belonging to one of you, he should submerge it
completely, then remove it, for verily, in one of
its wings is a poison and in the other is a cure
    (Bukhari/Ibn Majah)

5
What is excluded from 8?
  • The bones, horns, claws, hair and feathers of
    dead animals
  • Based on the basic principal that everything is
pure unless there is evidence that says
    otherwise.
  • A hadith in sahih Al-bukhari narrated in Muallaq
form that Imam az-Zuhri said, concerning the
bones of dead creatures , such as elephants and
the like I have seen some people from among
the scholars of salaf combing their hair with
combs made from them and writing upon them and
they saw no objection to it. This is the opinion
of Imam Abu Haneefa and one of two opinions of
    Imam Ahmed.
  • Analogy to the dead things that have no flowing
    blood.

6
How to Remove Najasaat
  • Since sharia informed us what are the najasaat,
it also informed us how to remove those
    impurities.
  • Cleansing the skin of dead animals by tanning.
For a proof (see slide 3).
  • Cleansing vessels which have been licked by a
dog. They should be washed seven times, the first
one with dust. For a proof (see slide 3).

7
How to Remove Najasaat
  • Cleansing a garment if blood is spilt on it.
  • She should scrape it, then scrub it with water,
then sprinkle it, then she may pray in it
    (Bukhari/Muslim)
  • 4. Cleansing a garment of the urine of a
    breastfed infant.
  • Narrated Abu As-Samh, the servant of the Prophet
(pbuh), that Allahs Messenger (pbuh) said The
garment should be washed if from a girls urine
and sprinkled if from a boys urine (Abu
    Dawood/Nasaai)

8
How to Remove Najasaat- Cont
  • Cleansing a garment from al-madhi.
  • The Hadith of Sahl ibn Haneef (r), the Messenger
replied It is sufficient for you to take a
handful of water and sprinkle your clothes with
it wherever you see its stains. (Abu
    Dawoud/Tirmidhi/Ibn Maajah).
  • Cleansing the soles of the shoes.
  • Narrated Abu Said (r) that the Prophet said
When one of you comes to the Masjid, he should
turn over his shoes to look at them and if he
sees anything filthy, he should wipe them on the
ground, then he should pray in them (Abu
    Dawood).

9
How to Remove Najasaat-Cont
  • Cleansing the Earth
  • Narrated Abu Huraira (r) that a Bedouin stood up
and urinated in the Masjid and the people seized
him, but the Prophet (pbuh) said to them Leave
him and pour a sajl or a dhanoob of water over
his urine for you were sent forth to make things
easy, not to make things difficult
    (Bukhari/Muslim)

10
Sunan Al-Fitra
  • Narrated Aisha (r) that Allahs Messenger (pbuh)
said There are ten things which are part of
al-Fitra Trimming the moustache, growing the
beard, using the siwaak, Istinshaaq with water
(Sniffing water in the nostrils ), clipping the
nails, washing the finger-joints (and in between
them), plucking the axillary hair, shaving the
pubic hair, and cleaning the private parts after
excretion. Zakaria said Musab said I have
forgotten the tenth one, unless it was madmadah
    (Muslim/Abu Dawood/ Tirmithi/ Nassai/Ibn Maajah).

11
Sunan Al-Fitra-Cont
  • The second hadith Narrated Abu Huraira (r) that
Allahs Messenger (pbuh) said There are five
things which are part of Al-fitra Shaving the
pubic hair, circumcision, trimming the moustache,
plucking the axillary hair and clipping the
    nails. (Bukhari/Muslim)
  • The sunan of Al-alfitra are

Toilet Room Etiquette
  • It is reported on the authority of Salmaan
al-Faarisi (r) that it was said to him Your
Prophet taught you everything, even how to
defecate! He replied Yes, he forbade us from
facing the qiblah when defecating or urinating,
from cleaning our private parts with the right
hand, and from using less than three stones to
clean our private parts, and from using dung or
bones to clean our private parts.
    (Muslim/Tirmidhi/Abu Dawood/Ibn Maajah)

14
Toilet Room Etiquette
  • This hadith shows that the Islamic Sharia covers
all aspects of our daily life.
  • What are the etiquettes of using the washroom?
  • Any article which bears the name of Allah
should not be taken into the toilet room except
when there is a fear of its loss if left outside.
  • Privacy in the sense of keeping out of sight
    should be maintained.
  • The dua Bismillah Allahomma Inni Aoodho Bika
Minal khubuthi Wal khabaith should be recited
when entering the toilet room. It means In the
name of Allah, O Allah! I seek Your protection
from the evil jinn, male and female.
  • Silence should be kept when using the toilet
except when there is a need to warn others of a
    danger.

15
Toilet Room Etiquette
  • Commonly used places such as roads, meeting
places or shaded areas should not be used as a
    toilet.
  • It is disliked to urinate in standing position,
and it is haraam if impurities are most likely to
    splash on ones clothes.
  • The left hand should be used in cleaning oneself.
It is haraam to use the right hand to clean ones
    private parts.
  • The left foot is to be used first to enter the
toilet room, and the right foot is be used first
    to leave the toilet.

16
Toilet Room Etiquette
  • The dua Ghufranak should be said when leaving
the toilet. This means I seek Your
    forgiveness.
  • It is not permitted to face the qiblah nor to
turn ones back to it when answering the call of
    nature.
  • It is forbidden to urinate in still water. Jabir
    (r) said that the Prophet (pbuh) forbade us to
    urinate in still water (Muslim/Nasaai)
  • It is permitted to clean the private parts with
water, or stones or their like, such as wood or
paper. This instruction is relevant when someone
is hiking outside the city and does not find
water. It is not permitted to use less than three
    stones.
