Function (when do we use simple present tense?)

• Routines or habits
• Words like every ____ (day, morning, etc.),
  usually, always, often, never, sometimes, etc.
• Facts
• Information that is true
• Examples
• I eat breakfast every morning.
• She lives in Santa Ana.

Form (what does simple present tense look like?)

• The statement uses the basic verb form EXCEPT for
  THIRD PERSON SINGULAR
• For the verb play.
• I play, you play, we play, they play..
• he, she, it

• The Yes/No question
• To form the question, you must use
• DO or DOES
• (DOES goes with THIRD PERSON SINGULAR)
• The verb is in the basic form.
• Do/Does subject basic verb form .

EXAMPLES

• Do you eat breakfast every morning?
• (Yes, I do.)
• Does she live in Anaheim?
• (No, she doesnt)
• (Note the answer can only be yes or no!)

• Wh Question
• These are questions that use words like when,
  what, where, why, how many, etc.
• Write the question word in the beginning
• Follow with
• do/does subject basic verb
• Example
• What do you do every morning? (I eat breakfast.)
• Where does she live? (She lives in Anaheim.)

• The negative
• Use do not/does not (or contraction dont or
  doesnt)
• Verb is in basic form
• Subject do not/does not basic verb
• Example
• I dont eat breakfast every morning.
• She doesnt live in Anaheim.

• If the sentence uses any form of BE.
• then the question and negative are formed by
  reversing the subject and verb.
• He is (Hes) a student at Fullerton College.
• Is he a student at Fullerton College?
• He is not (isnt) a student at FC.
• The trick If you DONT SEE a form of BE (is,
  am, are, etc.) DONT USE IT IN THE QUESTION OR
  THE NEGATIVE!
