The Golden Era
-
1650
1725
Considered the Great Age of Piracy in the Western
World
This was the era of Blackbeard, Henry Morgan,
Mary Read and Anne Bonnie just to name a few
pirates.
During this era, no one was safe from a pirate,
it had reached a peak in 1720 when the trading
with the American colonies was being threatened.
The term Pirates of the Caribbean is not an
understatement, there was so much piracy in the
Caribbean waters that the King of England started
to hire some of them to do his bidding. These men
were called Privateers.
Ended abruptly around 1725 when naval patrols
drove pirates out and dealt with them accordingly.

Pirates in the Present Day
Pirates still exist to this day. They may not
have the big boats and may not use the skull and
cross bone flags to mark their arrival, but they
are around. Now, it is mostly tourist and tankers
that they prey on. Insurance for boats who want
to take a trip down to the Caribbean is very high
because of modern day pirates.
10
Pirate Films
Since the beginning of film there have been many
different incarnation of pirates on screen. Here
are four memorable films with pirates in them.
