ABOUT ROSA PARKS
  • Rosa parks started the Michigan bus boycott.
  • She lived in America when there was segregation
    black and white people.
  • One day Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat
    for a white man.
  • Then she was arrested.
  • That is what caused the bus boycott.

Rosa Parks' Life
  • Rosa Parks was born 4th February 1913.
  • After she left school she got a job as a
    seamstress
  • She also worked in a local organisation to help
    African American people in America get the same
    rights as white people.
  • On 1st December 1955 she started the bus boycott
    which resulted in the the stopping of segregation
    on Mongomery's buses.

  • Because of the bus boycott she lost her job as a
    seamstress in a department store.
  • She left Montgomery to live in Michigan, Detroit
    because she couldn't find work.
  • She died on 24th October 2005 at about 7 o' clock
    at the age of 92.

About the Montgomery bus service
  • The segregation on the Montgomery bus service
    meant that black passengers had to sit at the
    back of the bus.
  • When the bus was full, black people had to give
    up their seats for white people.
  • On 1st December 1955 at around 6pm Rosa Parks
    refused to give up her seat for a white man.

About the Bus Boycott
  • Rosa Parks was arrested for not giving up her
    seat and fined 10.
  • Black people were shocked by this law. Soon they
    stopped using the bus until they were treated
    fairly.
  • That went on for 382 days.
  • The buses were not used and were left idle. It
    severely damaged the bus company's budget.
  • After 382 days the law was changed so black
    people were treated fairly on the buses.

  • The bus was a GM old look Transit Bus. Like this
    one....
  • The fleet number of the bus is 2857.
  • It was abandoned in a field
  • It is now in preservation in the Henry Ford
    museum in America.
