Hi, My name is Inchy and Im going to help you
learn your inches! Alyssa, Brandon, Peyton,
and Saim have a great story to help you learn
about inches.

This is your measuring template. Take it out
and lets learn!

Today we will focus on just a small part of the
inch ruler. Zoom in close to the part between 0
and 1.

Once upon a time there was a little guy named
Inchy. He started his journey at the zero.

Next he went to a place that was 4 lines away.
That was called ¼ .

Then there was a place that was split in half,
its name was ½. While Inchy was there he took a
little class that taught him all about the lines
on the ruler.

Inchy learned that there are 16 lines between
each inch. He had passed by 8 of them. He is
half way to his destination. Every 4 lines is ¼
of an inch.

Right now Inchy is at ½ inch. If Inchy goes
forward 4 more lines, where will he be?

Inchy is at ¾ of an inch. There he found a map
of the whole journey he had traveled. At 4 lines
he was at ¼, at 8 lines he was at ½, then at 12
lines he was at ¾.

Every four lines makes ¼ of an inch. Now he has
one more stop, that is called one inch. How many
more lines will he travel past to get to his
final stop?

It took him 4 more lines to get there. Inchy
couldnt believe his eyes when he got to the one
inch mark. All 16 lines he passed made one full
inch.

As you are measuring with your ruler. Think of
Inchy as your friend and remember there are 16
parts to make one inch. Think of them like
fractions. When you measure to the nearest ¼
inch, you are looking for a fraction. ¼, ½, ¾,
one inch!! Lets go Inchy! Get your ruler ready,
its time to measure some lines!
