What Are Parables?

• From the Greek word parabolee, which means to
  throw beside or put near, thus to compare.
• Definition A comparison or similitude, in which
  one thing is compared with another especially
  spiritual things with natural, by which means
  these spiritual things are better understood, and
  make a deeper impression on the attentive mind.
  American Heritage Dictionary
• A parable is not a fable.

Why Speak In Parables?

• Matthew 1310-17
• Dullness of peoples hearts true disciples
  would see while others would not see.
• Fulfillment of prophecy Matt. 1334-35 (cf.
  Psalm 781-8)
• Effectiveness can easily relate to stories
  memorable an agricultural people could
  understand stories of fields and animals.
