Cell Growth

• Living things grow by making more cells.
• A cell must be small enough so that DNA can
  control it, and so that oxygen and nutrients can
  travel throughout.
• More surface area less volume ? most efficient.
• Bigger cell means large volume ? not efficient.

Chromosomes

• rod-shaped structures made of DNA and proteins.
• Chromosomes look like an X during early mitosis
  because they have doubled.
• A chromosome consists of two identical sister
  chromatids, connected to each other at the
  centromere.

Cell Cycle

• A. INTERPHASE events that take place between
  cell divisions.
• G1 phase period of growth for a new cell.
• S phase (synthesis) new DNA is made as
  chromosomes are replicated.
• G2 phase organelles are copied final prep for
  division.
• B. MITOSIS nucleus divides.
• C. CYTOKINESIS cytoplasm divides.
