  • The intersection of a row and a column

  • Cell Reference or Cell Name
  • The column letter and row number that identify a
    single cell
  • Active Cell
  • The selected cell
  • Displayed with a bold border around it
  • When you type, the data will appear in the active
    cell
  • Name Box
  • Shows the cell reference of the active cell

  • A reference to a group of cells
  • Eg. A1D1 includes A1, B1, C1, D1
  • Eg. F1 F4 includes F1, F2, F3, F4
  • Formula Bar
  • Shows the contents of the active cell
  • If you type in the formula bar, the data will
    show up in the active cell

  • By default, these are left-aligned in the cell
  • Values
  • Numeric entries
  • These entries will have calculations performed on
    them
  • By default, these are right-aligned in the cell

  • Must begin with an equals sign ()
  • Mathematical operators
  • Multiplication
  • Division /
  • Addition
  • Subtraction -
  • Follows BEDMAS order of operations

  • The formulas will appear in the formula bar
  • The results of the formulas will appear in the
    cells
  • To display the actual formulas in the cells,
    press Ctrl
  • Press Ctrl again to return to seeing the
    resulting values in the cells

  • SUM(cellcell) Adds the specified cells
  • AVERAGE(cellcell) Finds the average of the
    specified cells
  • MIN(cellcell) Finds the lowest value in
    the specified cells

  • MAX(cellcell) Finds the highest value in
    the specified cells
  • COUNT(cellcell) Counts the number of
    cells in the specified range

Common Error Values
  • DIV/0 The formula is trying to divide by
    zero
  • REF The formula contains a cell reference
    that isnt valid
  • The result of the formula is too wide
    to fit in the column
