Organization

• Read The Organized Student by Donna Goldberg for
  suggestions.
• You may have to try different techniques to see
  what works for your child.

Organization Suggestions

• One notebook and one folder for each class.
• OR
• One notebook for each class, and only one folder
  for homework. Label one side of the folder
  Home for items that need to go to parents
  (tests, memos, etc.). Label the other side
  School for items that need to come back to
  school (homework, mail, etc.). Parents MUST
  check this folder nightly.

Locker

• Please provide your child with locker shelves
  that fit his/her locker.
• You will need to purchase a lock for your child
  at registration.
• Regularly ask your child for his/her graded
  papers. If you do not receive any, please ask
  your child to clean out his/her locker and book
  bag.

Assignment Pad

• Use to record daily assignments.
• Use to lay out study plans for upcoming projects
  and tests (teachers announce these in advance).
• Used for communication between home and school
  (grades on Thursdays, problems with homework,
  etc.).
• Students should bring home all work, even if it
  is finished, so you know it is completed.

Test Preparation

• Because teachers announce tests in advance,
  please help your child lay out a study plan.
• Please do not let them wait until the night
  before to begin studying for a test.
• In high-content areas, they should be reading
  their notes on a nightly basis to help them
  retain information for tests.

Make-up Tests

• If a student is absent the day of a test, he/she
  will come in at 715 AM the following Thursday.
  This keeps the student from missing additional
  class time.
• If multiple tests are missed, alternate
  arrangements can be made with the teachers.

Attendance

• It is important for your child to attend school
  on a regular basis.
• Please try to schedule family vacations during
  school vacation time, as it is difficult for
  students to make up missed work.
• Please check the handbook for absentee, tardy,
  and vacation policies.
• Please encourage your child to speak with each
  teacher upon returning to school.

Late Work

• Late work will be accepted within a reasonable
  amount of time, however, you may not receive full
  credit.
• Each teacher will review her own specific policy
  at the start of the school year. Ask your child
  for this information.

Conferences

• The Junior High team meets weekly to monitor both
  academics and behavior of all of our students.
• We will contact you if we feel a conference is
  necessary.
• If you would like to meet with us, contact your
  childs homeroom teacher to schedule a conference.

Conferences

• The Junior High staff meets as a team, not
  individually.
• Students must attend these conferences since they
  must be part of the solution.

Additional Academic Areas

• Spanish
• Classes meet for 45 minutes once per week, for 24
  weeks.
• Students will only receive grades on their report
  card second and fourth quarters.
• Spanish grades do not affect ineligibilities,
  though they do count for the honor roll.
• Homework is assigned weekly please remind your
  child to complete it.

Additional Academic Areas

• Health
• Class meets every Monday and Wednesday during
  second quarter (no gym).
• Assignments from the text will be completed in
  class or during study hall.
• Additional homework may be assigned please
  remind your child to complete it.

Ineligibility Policy

• In Junior High, ineligibilities are completed on
  a weekly basis.
• Teachers use cumulative grades to determine
  eligibility.
• For 6th grade, four ineligibilities in one season
  will result in removal from the team. (In 7th and
  8th, it is three per season.)
• Please read the handbook for more information.

Junior High Dances/Activity Days

• 7th and 8th grade dance dates will be announced
  on our website.
• Sixth graders are invited to the April dance
  only.
• They will have alternative activities during the
  last period of the day of the dance. This is in
  place of traditional classroom parties.

Outreach Project

• Each homeroom adopts a family in the Lake
  County area and provides them with food,
  clothing, and other items four times throughout
  the year.
• Look for more information next fall on the Junior
  High website.

Uniforms - Girls

• Culottes, oxford or polo shirt, sweater-vest or
  navy-blue sweatshirt. These items must be
  purchased through Extra Credit, American
  Outfitters, or the school office.
• Socks must be white, navy blue, or black. Shoe
  policy will remain the same.
• Make up and colored nail polish may NOT be worn
  to school. Hair color must be natural.

  purchased through Extra Credit, American
  Outfitters, or the school office.
• Socks must be white, navy blue, or black. Shoe

  handbook.
