Charters and Memberships of various Jain Center
Committees
  • Based on the recommendations of the General Body
    on September 18, 2005, the JSGC Executive
    Committee took following actions
  • Postpone the formation of Pratishtha and Souvenir
    Committees.
  • Modify charters of all committees to extend their
    term to six months after completion of the
    building project to assist with the settlement of
    all related issues.
  • The charter of the (main) Jain Center committee
    was modified to include responsibility for
  • Maintenance aspects of the Jain Center during
    its tenure.
  • Communication with outside communities (Richfield
    township etc.)
  • Adjust memberships of various committees such
    that most participants are either on one or two
    committees only.
  • Added several interested members to various
    committees.

The Charter of the Main Jain Center Committee
  • Responsible to the General Body and the Executive
    Committee.
  • Manage the project to build the JSGC Jain Center
    at the Richfield site in its entirety.
  • Coordinate activities of all sub-committees.
    Form/dissolve sub committees as necessary.
  • Create guidelines and controls for managing fund
    raising and expenditures.
  • Report project progress to the Executive
    Committee and the General Body on a regular
    basis.
  • Responsible for communication with outside
    communities (e.g. Richfield township, others)
  • The Committee will remain in place through the
    entire building project and up to six months
    after its completion to settle all contracts,
    payments and accounts related to the project.
    The Committee during its tenure, will also be
    responsible for maintenance aspects of the Jain
    Center.

The Charter of the Design Sub-Committee
  • Responsible for the design of the Jain Center
    interior and exterior with the exception of the
    Ghabara itself.
  • Determination of needed facilities, their size
    and location within the center.
  • Choice of materials/colors etc to be made in
    coordination with Engineering and construction
    committee.
  • The Design sub-committee reports to the (main)
    Jain Center Committee and will remain in place
    through the entire building project and up to six
    months after its completion to settle all
    contracts, payments and accounts related to the
    project, unless specifically dissolved by the
    (main) Jain Center committee.

The Charter of the Gabhara Sub-Committee
  • Responsible for Design of the Gabhara, shikhar
    and related items.
  • Choice of how many and which Murtis to be
    installed in the Gabhara and outside the Gabhara.
    Choice of Mulnayak Bhagwan and all related
    matters.
  • Identification of Acharya Bhagwant for
    Margdarshan and seeking and interpreting their
    advice for application to our circumstances as
    needed.
  • Will advise (main) Jain Center Committee on use
    of Dev Dravya funds per the direction provided by
    Acharya Bhagwant.
  • The Gabhara sub-committee reports to the (main)
    Jain Center Committee and will remain in place
    through the entire building project and up to six
    months after its completion to settle all
    contracts, payments and accounts related to the
    project, unless specifically dissolved by the
    (main) Jain Center committee.

The Charter of the Engineering and Construction
Sub-Committee
  • Responsible for managing all engineering and
    construction aspects of the Jain Center complex
    including all permits, contracts, supervision of
    contractors, building process and related
    activities.
  • Responsible for managing the bid process
    soliciting, evaluating and awarding bids as
    appropriate.
  • All Engineering, Construction and Architectural
    contracts will be handled by this committee.
  • Work closely with the Design and Gabhara
    sub-committees to help create and then implement
    agreed upon designs.
  • The Engineering and Construction sub-committee
    reports to the (main) Jain Center Committee and
    will remain in place through the entire building
    project and up to six months after its completion
    to settle all contracts, payments and accounts
    related to the project, unless specifically
    dissolved by the (main) Jain Center committee.

The Charter of the Fund Raising and Finance
Sub-Committee
  • Responsible for raising/disbursing funds for the
    Jain Center Project
  • Create mechanism for getting pledges, collecting
    and disbursing funds. Envision and conduct Fund
    raising events as appropriate.
  • Manage the income and expenses in coordination
    with the (main) Jain Center Committee and the
    Engineering and Construction sub-committee.
  • Maintain accounts of all funds related to the
    Jain Center project. Provide timely reports to
    the (main) Jain Center Committee, the Executive
    Committee and the General Body of the JSGC.
  • The Fund Raising and Finance sub-committee
    reports to the (main) Jain Center Committee and
    will remain in place through the entire building
    project and up to six months after its completion
    to settle all contracts, payments and accounts
    related to the project, unless specifically
    dissolved by the (main) Jain Center committee.

The Charter of the Public Relations Sub-Committee
  • To be the link between the JSGC community and the
    (main) Jain Center Committee and its sub
    committees.
  • To help with any and all issues coming up within
    the community. Act in advisory capacity to the
    (main) Jain Center Committee and its
    sub-committees.
  • The Public Relations sub-committee is responsible
    to the (main) Jain Center Committee and will
    remain in place through the entire building
    project and up to six months after its completion
    to settle all contracts, payments and accounts
    related to the project, and will be dissolved
    along with the (main) Jain Center committee at
    the end of the project.

Gabhara Committee Update
  • Recommended three Murtis in Gabhara, including
    Mulnayak Bhagwan.
  • Two Murtis will be shwetamber and one digamber.
  • Three darshaniya Murtis in Bhamati. Suggested
    allowing for room in Bhamati for future
    installation of additional Murtis.
  • Committee decided to seek Margdarshan from
    Acharya Shree Pradyumansuriji Maharaj Saheb via
    Sri Sunandaben Vora regarding the selection of
    Mulnayak Bhagwan.
  • Necessary details were sent to Sri Sunandaben
    Vora to take them to Acharya Bhagwant. Sri
    Sunandaben Vora has also contacted Shree
    Narvansuriji Maharaj Saheb.
  • Sri Sunandaben Vora has advised that Hansaben and
    Vinodbhai meet the Acharyas personally during
    their visit to India. Explain our circumstances
    in detail and seek Margdarshan.

Gabhara Committee Update (contd.)
  • Recommended outside shikhar and Ghummat seeking
    input from Engineering and Construction
    Committee.
  • Recommended other details regarding Gabhara size,
    doors, Kesar sukhad room, etc pending the
    determination of overall size and plan for the
    Temple portion of the Jain Center.

Design Committee Update
  • Design Committee looked at defining some basic
    parameters for getting feedback and
    recommendations from the Engg. And construction
    Committee.
  • They took the view that the facility should be
    planned with a view to the future that is
    sufficient for our Society for at least next ten
    years.
  • Parameters defined on the next slide.
  • These parameters lead to a building size in the
    range of about 9,600 sq.ft. And estimated total
    cost of about 1.6 MM.
  • As contingency planning, have begun to also look
    at building sizes of 8,600 and 7,600 sq ft.

  • Temple Facility for 200 people to sit beyond
    trigudo
  • Main Hall with a permanent stage and facility to
    feed 300 people in one sitting
  • Kitchen to prepare food for 300 people (20 ft x
    30 ft)
  • Separate service entrance to the kitchen
  • Library (250 sq ft), two classrooms possibly by
    dividing a larger room (200 sq ft each), Office
    (150 sq ft).
  • Hallways of sufficient size to serve as spill
    over areas from both the Temple and the main Hall
    for a 300 people function.
  • Men and Womens showers, change areas, rest rooms
  • Main entrance to Center away from Temple. Shoes,
    coat closets near main entrance.

Engineering and Construction Committee update
  • Provided several sketches to Design sub committee
    with variety of options to Design Committee for
    consideration varying from 6200 sq ft total to
    9600 sq ft total Center area.
  • Provided two sketches that start at about 7,000
    sq ft total area and have the option of expanding
    the main Hall area and possibly the service area
    in the future.
  • Provided input on consideration of options to
    Design committee and the main Jain Center
    Committee.
  • Provide input to develop preliminary cost
    estimates and timelines for expenditures to
    assist in project planning.
  • Working on developing and negotiating a contract
    for surveying and civil engineering.

Going Forward
  • As is easy to see the most critical issue in
    achieving our dream of a Jain Center is the
    determination of what we can reasonably expect to
    collect. That will determine the size and
    quality of our building.
  • The community gave the Committees permission to
    spend up to 1.6 MM on the Jain Center project in
    the last GBM. Now, we need assurance that we can
    collect those funds.
  • The Committees would very much like not to leave
    debts on the Jain Center for future volunteers
    and also make provision for the maintenance costs
    for two to three years.
