I Kings 1817-21
Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab
said to him, Is that you, O troubler of Israel?
And he answered, I have not troubled Israel, but
you and your fathers house have, in that you
have forsaken the commandments of the LORD and
have followed the Baals. Now therefore, send and
gather all Israel to me on Mount Carmel, the four
hundred

and fifty prophets of Baal, and the four
hundred prophets of Asherah, who eat at Jezebels
table. So Ahab sent for all the children of
Israel, and gathered the prophets together on
Mount Carmel. And Elijah came to all the people,
and said, How long will you falter between two
opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him but if
Baal, follow him. But the people answered him
not a word.

Reaching the YouthSt. Louis Family Church

• Paul Baker, 16, sits in the front row during
  Wednesday nights youth service in the church
  multipurpose building. His shoulder-length black
  hair, black fingernails, black eyeliner spike
  dog collar wristband make him look more like a
  follower of Marilyn Manson than Jesus Christ. He
  a half dozen kids sporting that gothic look are
  raising their hands, jumping up down expressing
  fervor.

• John Moore, 45, leaps bounces through the
  multipurpose center at 730pm as if he is one of
  the elementary schoolers in this class. Call it a
  Holy Romper Room. Faith is like a rope, he
  exclaims. Hes Alive! A chorus of young voices
  repeat every phrase back.

• More than 60 children run, do cartwheels twirl
  into the air, as Moore carefully teaches the
  basics of the churchs doctrine in the name of
  fun. We want the kids to know that God loves
  them, Moore says. We want them to have a
  favorable, positive experience so they dont feel
  dragged to church. We want them to know the
  basics.
