  • The Protocol is intended to achieve stabilization
of greenhouse gas concentrations in the
atmosphere at a level that would prevent
    dangerous anthropogenic interference with the
    climate system.
  • It legally establishes the binding commitments
for the reduction of 4 greenhouse gases carbon
dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and sulphur
    hexaflouride in all participating countries.
  • It also focuses on minimizing impacts on
Developing Countries by establishing an adaption
    fund for climate change.
  • The United States is one of two countries that
did not ratify the Kyoto Protocol.
  • The protocol was drafted in 1997 and came into
    affect in February of 2005.
  • The agency responsible for the regulation of the
Kyoto Protocol is the United Nations. However the
    protocol is regulated very loosely.
