3
Chronological Order
  • Used mainly in informative presentations.
  • Arranged according to the time something occurs.
  • Categorizes the points as past, present, and
    future.
  • Know how its used in presentations. (pg. 490)

4
Sequential Order
Like the steps in changing the oil in a car.
  • Arranged in the steps of some process.
  • Used in any presentation that instructs someone
    how to do something.
  • Your main points are the steps in the process.
    (see pg. 491)

5
Spatial Order
  • Arranged according to how the topic is put
    together.
  • You discuss the topic left to right, top to
    bottom, etc.
  • Weather forecasters use Spatial Order.

6
Topical Order
  • Main points are related because they all fit in a
    general category.
  • Points are usually introduced in order of
    importance.
  • This is one of the more flexible orders.
  • Often used in persuasive presentations.

7
Cause Effect Organization
All students should read and study at LEAST three
hours a week. If they did, they would make
better grades.
  • The first part the cause brings about some
    action.
  • The second part would focus on the effects of
    the cause.
  • Can be used in informational or persuasive.

8
Problem Solution Organization
  • The first step describes THE PROBLEM.
  • Next, you give a solution!
  • Usually used to persuade your audience to take
    some action.

Monroes Motivated Sequence
  • Named after a communication expert, its a
five-part strategy designed for people who wish
to PERSUADE/MOTIVATE others to take IMMEDIATE
    action.
  • All people have needs, they can be persuaded by
    claims that satisfy those needs.

10
One - ATTENTION
  • You must get the attention of the audience.

11
Two - Need
  • At this point, you make the audience aware of
    some need that exists!
  • By the end of this step, the audience should be
ready to hear what is necessary to satisfy this
    need.

12
Three - Satisfaction
  • This is where you show the audience a solution
for the NEED you just explained.
  • You should include enough details for the
audience to completely understand what you are
    talking about.

13
Four - Visualization
  • Help your audience SEE the benefits of your
    solution.
  • BE DESCRIPTIVE - Vivid imagery will help them
know they will profit from your solution.

14
Five - Action
  • This is where you tell people exactly what you
want them to buy, do, or get and how to do it.
  • Complete this step by reminding them of how they
will benefit by doing this action.

15
Look over outline example
  • Under each main idea list your supporting
    information.
  • You may use words, phrases, or complete
    sentences.
