Recruiting

• Definition of recruit renew or restore the
  health, vitality or intensity of
• Each time we recruit new member we are adding a
  new dimension to the club
• Each new member restores the vitality of your
  club
• Recruiting is essential to the continuation of
  our Association

Lifeblood

• Membership if the lifeblood of our organization
• To accomplish the purposes of service in our
  organization, we must have members
• More members we have, the more service we can
  render
• Rendering more service is reason our organization
  exists

1. Acquire Knowledge of Lionism

• Salesman says know your product
• First question What are Lions?
• Know your club and LCI
• Develop and Use brochure
• Share your knowledge

2. Create Opportunities to Recruit

• Look for prospects
• Prospect wheel contacts in business, family,
  church, community
• Create opportunity to talk about Lions, and
  invite them to meeting

Three Minimum Requirements of Membership

• Legal Majority
• Good moral character
• Good reputation in community

Quality?

• Debate of quality vs. non-quality
• How do you know beforehand
• Quality is not the busiest
• Blue collar may develop in to most committed
  member
• What counts Their experience when get in the
  club make sure it is good.

Young Members

• Takes one to recruit one
• Get them in, and let them recruit
• We naturally recruit those we are comfortable
  with and see frequently
• Dont forget to make sure they have good
  experience so they will be proud to recruit their
  friends
• Dont forget, listen to young Lions ideas

3. Insure Smooth Acceptance

• Membership is by invitation only
• Have Membership Committee and Board approve
  prospect in advance
• Approval prior to invitation will avoid
  embarrassment
• Make them feel welcome, introduce them to other
  members

Proper Induction

• Induction is first step toward membership
  development
• Induction should be impressive and dignified
  affair
• Well respected Lion should perform

4. Provide Information

• Make sure the new member has information about
  your club and Lionism
• Provide new member kit
• Provide list of club members and spouses
• Be available to answer questions
• Introduce to other members
• Ask if they have questions

5. Involve New Member

• Make sure they attend meetings and functions of
  club
• Take them to District function
• Assign new member to committee(s)
• Few leave because they are worked to hard many
  leave because not involved
• Make sure that new member does not have conflicts
  with members

6. Orient New Member

• First, orientation needs to take place
• Make sure covers your club, District, MD, and LCI
• Orientation and training will build commitment to
  Lionism
• If not done in club, make sure new member attends
  District Orientation
• Tall oaks from little acorns grow

7. Encourage New Member

• Attend beyond club level
• Zone and District Meetings
• Get the big picture, increases commitment
• Encourage their ideas, talents and enthusiasm
• It helps them, and it helps your club
• Encourage them to recruit new members

• More committed Lions, more Service
• More service to fellowman, we accomplish our
  mission
