52003 Facility Master Plan
- Identified weight room as most important amenity
- Identified weight room as area needing the most
improvement
6Rationale for Project
- When the Activity Center was built adequate room
was given to most areas except the weight room.
Only 950 square feet were allotted for cardio and
weight machines. At that time, the weight room
consisted of 1 universal machine, a rowing
machine and two treadmills and a sit up board
7Existing Weight Room
8Existing Weight Room Equipment
- Original sit-up board from the 80s
9National Emphasis on Weight Training
- Influences more people to begin a program
- Will increase the number of users
- Encourages people to use the weight room for
injury recovery, rehabilitation or better quality
of life as well as strength training
10The Weight Room Project
- Contributes to the Health and Wellness of users
by providing an up-to-date, safe clean work-out
area - Contributes to Community Development by providing
multi-purpose meeting rooms for group fitness,
safety and instructional seminars
11Project Description
- The project consists of remodeling two
racquetball courts so that 1600 square feet of
usable space can be added to the existing 950
square foot weight room by converting the courts
to a two-story structure - The upper level will adjoin the weight room
- The lower level will become group fitness and
meeting rooms
12Drawings
- Side view of two-story plan
13Front View of two-story conversion
- Lower level shows entry to fitness or meeting
room - Upper level is connected to weight room
14Project Goals
- Alleviate the overcrowding to safely accommodate
more people at one time - Prepare for the growing needs of our community
- Provide room to add updated weight room equipment
15Project Goals, Continued
- Add two multi-purpose rooms for safety and
instructional seminars and health and fitness
classes
16Rationale for the Project
- Surveys indicate that the weight room is the most
important amenity at the Center and also the one
needing the most improvement. - At 950 square feet the weight room does not meet
the current needs - Weight room is becoming more crowded as the
community grows
.
17Rationale, continued
- National emphasis on weight lifting is
increasing the number of people working out to
improve strength, endurance, muscle tone and
balance - Use of the weight room can lead to a better
quality of life - A major antidote to the effects of aging
18Target Audience
- Garfield County residents and Western Mesa County
- Residents of Rifle, Silt, Rulison, Parachute,
DeBeque Battlement Mesa - Out-of-District patrons

recreation, fitness and community/social needs of
members guests.
20Why Assistance Is Being Requested
- The primary source of income (an annual
assessment of Bat/Mesa residents) is capped at
205/year - Population growth does not result in additional
revenue - BMAC does not collect property taxes or share in
the taxes collected for the Parks/Recreation
District
21Why Assistance Is Needed
- The recent growth in energy interests in this
valley has impacted communities through increased
population and energy development activities - The Activity Center is a popular year-round
amenity available to all residents in Western
Garfield County and Eastern Mesa County
