Title: CHILDREN OUT OF POVERTY
1CHILDREN OUT OF POVERTY
A small registered charity in South India which
rescues very poor disadvantaged children from
tragic circumstances and gives them a chance to
build a life by providing them with a home, food
and education. These children would otherwise
join the millions of Indians street children
subjected to a life of begging and abuse
MICHAELPALAYAM Village. Dindigul District.
Tamilnadu RUN BY THE INDIAN REGISTERED
CHARITY Society for Promoting Self
Reliance Society Registration No. 41 / 1994
2LEADER
- The project was started by, and is run by, a
Christian Indian gentleman called Mr Anthonysamy
who has an M.A. in Social Studies from the
Kamarajar University in Madurai. He is also fully
qualified and experienced as a Family and Child
Counselor -
- Anthonysamy is married to a schoolteacher and
they have three children aged 14, 12 and 9 - The project is purely secular and children from
all backgrounds regardless of Caste or Religion
are warmly welcomed
3BACKGROUND
- The children in this project, through no fault of
their own, are casualties of life. - a father hangs himself leaving a wife who can (if
work is available) earn a paltry Rupees 50 per
day. (0.65p) a totally inadequate sum on which
to raise a family. - anothers Dad is serving a life sentence for
murder and his wife has disappeared - then the little girl whose Mum died of
Tuberculosis and whose Dad married again, but the
step-mother rejected the child and so it goes
on. - The children, like debris, are left behind,
casualties indeed.
4THE CHILDREN
- At present 22 children who were at risk have
already been enrolled and are now settled into
their new home. All this has been made possible
due to the generosity of a small number of
Overseas Sponsors, and the dedication of one
amazing man, Anthonysamy - The children receive full-time education at the
local Government School, nutritious meals,
companionship and the chance to interact and play
with other children. Any known relatives of the
children are encouraged to visit them as often as
possible at weekends
5WHY SUPPORT A SMALL CHARITY?
- With only a small budget to monitor, it is easy
to scrutinise all financial activities and thus
ensure proper usage of the limited funds that we
do manage to raise - The project is fully registered with the
Government of India and has permission to import
foreign funds. Its accounts are independently
audited each year.
6HOW MUCH OF WHAT WE DONATE ACTUALLY REACHES THE
TARGET BENEFICIARIES?
- ALL monies donated go straight into the project
- There are NO administrative costs
- Twice a year a Newsletter is sent by e-mail to
the sponsors keeping them up to date on the
progress of the project and the children. The
design, content, production, editing,
illustration and distribution is done in house - Not a single rupee of sponsorship money is wasted
7EXPENDITURE
- It costs approximate 210 to feed and clothe one
child per year - You can see in the following photos that there
are no frills at the home, ie no shoes, no
furniture, no beds, bare concrete floors, etc - In spite of this, these children and being given
a chance in life that they wouldnt otherwise get
but we desperately need more financial help to
expand the project and help more children
