4 BLOCK SCHEDULING
  • Our school has adopted a modified version of this
    type of scheduling to increase students success
    in the area of Language Arts.
  • Blocks of time are set aside to address 4
    different areas.
  • Guided Reading, Working with Words, Self-Selected
    Reading (DEAR), and Writing are incorporated in
    the classroom daily.

AGENDAS
  • Each student should have an agenda to keep track
    of daily assignments.
  • The agendas need to be checked daily by parents.
  • Parents please check these every night to help
    the students stay on task and learn
    responsibility.

HOMEWORK
  • Homework will be assigned in 5th grade daily.
  • The assignments shouldnt ever take a student
    more than one hour total for all subjects.
  • Late work is discouraged. Guidelines are set by
    individual teachers regarding late work.

ACCELERATED READER
  • Your child will be participating in the
    Accelerated Reader Program
  • He/She will be expected to take and pass an
    appropriate amount of tests per nine weeks with
    at least 80 accuracy.
  • Each nine weeks, your child will be given an
    individual point goal to obtain.
  • The goal will be based on your childs reading
    level which will be received from the STAR test
    that is given at the beginning of the year.
  • Some time is set aside weekly for silent reading,
    but it is very important that your child read
    each night for at least 20 minutes at home as
    well.

ATTENDANCE
  • 740 AM-220 PM
  • To be an unexcused absence, a note must be sent
    in with a parent signature explaining reason.
  • No bus changes.
  • Phone calls will not excuse an absence.
  • If absent, five days will be given for make-up
    work.
  • Car rider line will be locked at 740A.M. If
    arriving after that time, student must be checked
    in at the front office.

  • Georgia Writing Test March 4
  • CRCT (Criterion Referenced Competency Test)
    April 21-29 (Students must meet standards in
    reading and math in order to be promoted to 6th
    grade)
  • Benchmark Assessments End of each nine week
    period in Math and Language Arts
