Intervention BEP (Behavior Education Program)

Rationale
  • There were students in the middle of the
    triangle, who were not being adequately served by
    our school wide intervention program.
  • The students were violating our school mission
    statement in regards to being Safe, Kind, and
    Responsible.
  • Goal To modify their behavior in order to
    decrease the number of office referrals and rule
    breaking behavior.

  • Based on number of interventions done by teacher.
    On the fourth level one violation, the student
    was referred to the office.
  • Based on discipline referrals to the office the
    student was referred to the BEP program.

Implementation Description
  • UBI Team presented the BEP to faculty and staff.
  • The staff viewed the BEP intervention DVD.
  • The staff approved the BEP program.
  • Formed BEP team.
  • Students are referred by teacher/ principal/
    parent.
  • Parents are notified and program explained.
  • Parents approve and offer their support to
    participate in the program.

  • Students begin BEP program within one week of
    parent notification.
  • Check in with BEP Coordinator twice daily.
  • Regular feedback and reinforcement from teacher.
  • Tracker is taken home daily and returned.

General Discussion
  • Most students who started the BEP program have
    had some success with this intervention. One of
    the biggest benefits is that they are receiving
    positive reinforcement daily from several staff
    members.
  • This is our first year on the BEP program. Many
    students are benefiting from the implementation
    of the program. We will continue this program
    this next year.
  • What did you learn? This is a positive program
    for students who are participating.
  • The UBI program is a huge undertaking, but has
    changed our school and has made a big impact.
