Assembling Components

  • To begin click File, New, then select Design
  • Draw a square, then draw a circle in the centre,

3. Use the dimension tool, to dimension the
square to 200x200mm
4. Then dimension the circle to make sure it is
in the centre, and the size of the circle to 35mm
Radius OR 70mm Diameter.

5. Extrude the shape by 50mm. 6. Save the design
as Block

7. Next Shape begin by clicking File, New, then
select Design. 8. Draw a circle and extrude this
by 150mm. 9 .Dimension this shape to 69.98mm
diameter OR 34.99mm radius

10. Save the design as Rod 11. You should now
have two designs, and these can be seen if you
adjust your windows. These are the two components
of your design.

12. Start a new design again, and begin inserting
the components of your design. Do this by
clicking Assembly, and click Add component. Start
with the Block. 13. Now repeat the steps above
and insert the Rod. Your page should look
something like this

14. Click on the rod to select it, then click
again, holding it down and drag it away from the
square. This will make it far easier to align
next.

15. To begin aligning the pieces, use the select
faces tool to select the outside edge of the
Rod. 16. Hold down shift and click on the inside
of the hole in the block. 17. Now begin aligning
the parts. Click on Assembly, then click Centre
Axis this will centre the Rod into the hole.

18. Now select the base of the Rod, and by using
the arrow keys to rotate the shape, select the
base of the Block. 19. Again click Assembly, then
click Align

The shape should now look like this.

20. Now add another block. Click Assembly, then
Add component. Find the block and Add it
again. 21. Use Select faces to select the top
of the block and then by holding SHIFT select the
top of the Rod. 22. Click Assembly then Align
again.

23. Use select faces again, to select the Rod and
the side of the hole in the block once again.
(Hold SHIFT) 24. Now click Assembly, and then
Center Axis again, the design should now look
like this

25. Save your file, (DONT CLOSE IT) and go back
to the block. Use your previous learning to
select the edge faces, then round the edges to
24mm. 26. Now go back to your Assembled design,
and see the effect it has had on it.
It should look like this

27. Save your file, (DONT CLOSE IT) and go back
to the Rod this time. 28. In the top left,
select the workplane, and then the sketch you
have drawn the circle on in the first place. 29.
Draw a circle inside the previous sketch 30. Now
click the traffic light and it should look like
this. 31. Now go back to your Assembled file.
