• One of five children
• Attended Pasadena Junior College
• At UCLA, lettered in four sports baseball,
  basketball, football and track
• In 1941, Jackie played professional football for
  Los Angeles Bulldogs to help support his mother.

• 1942 entered army for World War II, stationed at
  Fort Riley, Kansas
• Honorable discharge from Army in 1943
• 1945, Jackie played one season for a Negro
  Baseball League.
• Joined the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947 National
  League Rookie of the Year (12 homers, 29 steals)
• 1949 National League Most Valuable Player

• Married Rachel Isum in 1946
• In 1956 ended his career as a Brooklyn Dodger.
• First black person to be elected to the Baseball
  Hall of Fame (1962)

• Jackie Robinson died in 1972
• In 1997 the World celebrated the 50th Anniversary
  of Jackies breaking Major League Baseballs
  color barrier

• On August 2, 1982, the U.S. Postal Service
  released a 20-cent stamp commemorating baseball
  great Jackie Robinson as the fifth in the annual
  Black Heritage series of stamps. First day of
  issue ceremonies were held at the Major League
  Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, N.Y.
