How many volcanoes are there?

• There are about 1500 active volcanoes throughout
  the world.
• A volcano is considered active if it has erupted
  at least once in the past few hundred years.

What is the most active volcano in the world?

• Kilauae (in Hawaii) is the most active.

What is the biggest volcano in the world?

• The biggest volcano in the world is in Hawaii.
• It is called Mauna Loa.

How fast can lava go?

• The fastest lava flow front recorded was 6 mph
  from the 1950 Mauna Loa eruption.
• Once the lava formed a channel, the lava sped up
  to about 36 mph.
• Thats really fast!

How hot is lava?

• Hawaiian lava is the hottest lava. It is about
  1170 degrees C, which is 2140 degrees F. (And
  you thought Alabama summers were hot!)
• Lava in other parts of the world is 200-300
  degrees C cooler than Hawaiian lava.

• Many planets and moons contain volcanoes.
• The most notable are the Earths moon, Venus,
  Mars, and Io, the moon closes to Jupiter.
