Creation of a training package for the
historical research
  • The Macerata University Unit the topic
  • Laws and official Texts concerning the choise and
    adoption of textbooks in italian schools from the
    Unification of the italian State (1861)
  • through the early fascist twenty-ears period
    (1928),
  • up to the end of the Second World War (1945)

The Training Package
  • The Training Package is aimed at providing a
    guide to the study of history for everybody who
    would like to approach the historical research,
    such as students of secondary school, university
    students, PhD students, researchers
  • and also aimed at assisting them in acquiring
  • 3 important skills, which are

Training Package
  • 1) a correct methodology of research which
    include the knowledge and comprehension of the
    diverse typologies of historical sources
    (normative text for the school)
  • 2) the ability in searching, finding and
    selecting the above-mentioned sources both in
    Libraies or Archives and in the digital world
    (electronic databases and Web)
  • 3) the competency in correctly making use of the
    sources (analysis, description, quote) within the
    historiographical research

The GRID
  • The Macerata Unit had decided to strictly follow
    the grid which has been discussed among the
    partners during the Berlanga de Duero meeting
    (10-13 September 2008).
  • A detailed structure has been developed in order
    to facilitate the assemblage of the various
    chapter into the final document (the Training
    Package).
  • The specified paragraphs can guide the various
    partners in elaborating the assigned chapter in a
    omogeneus way

The GRID
  • The Laws and official Textes has been
    developed, in hypertextual format (i.e. with the
    use of external links, both to on line resources
    in the Web, and in the Portal HOL), and the
    following (5) points which constitute the
    above-mentioned grid
  • description of general features of the law-texts
    as historical sources definition, hierarchy and
    typologies of laws, and general aspects of laws
    as shaped by the values of each particular
    social-cultural environment
  • 2) description and analysis of specific
    features of the law-texts regarding the
    school-system, and their role as source for the
    historical-educational field

The GRID
  • 3) example of use of this particular
    historical source (the law-texts for the school),
    with regard to a specific historical-educational
    topic the case of the work of the Commission for
    the revision of textbooks in Italy during the
    fascist regime (1923-1928). The exemplification
    will be carried on by making use of the full-text
    of the Circulars and other official texts which
    have been digitised inside the national database
    prepared by the Macerata unit-partner
    (ITL-Italian textbooks legislation,
    http//www.history-on-line.eu/itl.aspx)
  • 4) practical examples of documents are
    analysed and described in order to make
    history-students gain competency in correctly
    analysing, describing, citing and quoting this
    kind of source inside a written historical
    research
  • 5) detailed instructions are given in order
    to make history-students able to search and find
    this particular kind of sources, both in
    historical archives, paper indexes, specific
    data-bases, and finally in the digital world of
    the web (on line repertories, collections and
    data-bases).
