4Song Lyrics
What of the times in exile What of the hours
passed What if touches seem too trivial You can
never tell me I'm wrong a song I've heard so
long (Chorus) I came in madnessSo this my
shattered heart can't bear So what if healing
takes forever So what if time is meant for
others So what is left is but a shatter And what
is broken can't be whole What is broken cant be
whole again
What if some things are destined to failure What
if some things are never meant to be What if
someone never sees What if someone never
opens What if somehow we are different Though I
never claimed to be right Give to me the benefit
of doubt Chorus I brought you fires that you
put out I brought you fires for I cannot be
without I came with sadness but this my shattered
heart can't bear
5Song Structure
-Verse / Bridge / Chorus / Verse / Bridge /
Chorus / Solo / Verse / Chorus -Starts with
anaphora, using what if. No rhyme. -Chorus has
two parts, in which the mood changes. 1. A B A
(repeat of first line) B 2. C D C D -
appear only in 2nd and 3rd verses -Another
anaphora appears at the end, using the the phrase
so what.
6Interpreting the song
Moods and themes-Sadness, insanity, due to love
lost or seeming lost, broken. There is a feeling
of desperation, hope against reason. -Exile, a
reference to what? Time spent apart from a lover,
or a break in a relationship? Lyrics and
music -Very aggressive vocal delivery and
rhythm, but the lyrics and melody are quite
melancholy. Suggests both determination and
despair, to disparate themes. -Imagery concerns
fire, things being broken.
7Conclusion
Dark Tranquillitys music captures a variety of
intense emotions and blends them easily. This is
true through the album Damage Done and especially
so in Hours Passed in Exile. The song is not
especially complex but is still well-crafted and
delivered honestly and passionately.
