  • Form part of the group that appraises our
    successes (or weaknesses) in PE.
  • Attend cluster meetings with other PLTs.
  • Fulfil the role as PLT for my school.
  • Discuss the future of PE and Sport in
    Lincolnshire.
  • Critical friend for primary schools not yet
achieving 2 hrs curriculum time PE.

4
Achieving our Goals
  • Schools are asked to provide their pupils with
2 hours of PE within the curriculum hours (85 by
    2008)
  • New directives are asking that we provide up
to 5 hours of PE and Sport opportunities to our
    pupils each week.
  • The YST are asking us to find the first extra
hour once we are achieving our 2 hours a week.
This can be achieved through after school clubs
and signposting to outside clubs and activities.

5
Have a Plan!
  • Check your timetable
  • Consult your staff
  • Consult your pupils
  • Consult your parents
  • Consult anyone that will listen!
  • Then
  • Create a vision
  • Identify any issues or problems.
  • Audit your resources.
  • Plan your PE schemes of work to make best use of
    what you have in school.
  • Inspire young people to achieve

6
What can go wrong?
  • Lack of timetable space.
  • Lack of actual space.
  • Lack of resources.
  • Lack of expertise.
  • Lack of teacher confidence or enthusiasm.
  • Worry about SATs!

7
And the answers?
  • Be prepared to negotiate.
  • Sell your ideas.
  • Get back up from supportive staff and your SSCo
    PDM.
  • Quote facts and figures (PESSCL).
  • Produce documents.

8
Case Study Great Ponton
  • My school has no hall.
  • My village has a lovely Village Hall.
  • The committee members seem to want a weekly
    rent/fee
  • for our use of the hall.
  • We cant afford that!
  • We meet with the Village Hall committee and
    discuss a way
  • forward. Eventually it is agreed we can use it
    for free!

9
Additional Problems.
  • We have no gym equipment.
  • Some children in our school have never even
jumped off a bench let alone a vaulting horse!
  • Gym equipment costs lots of money.
  • Storage will be an issue.
  • Village Hall might not be supportive or
    impressed.

10
Solution?
  • Talk to the committee about storage space.
  • Fundraise to help purchase equipment.
  • Use devolved capital funds if possible.
  • Come to an arrangement regarding the storage of
the equipment off school site ().
  • Put appropriate measures in place eg risk
    assessment, insurance and annual equipment
    inspection.

11
Alternatives
  • No hall no village hall what do you do?
  • Make use of outdoor facilities as often as
    possible.
  • Make use of local sports centres or swimming
    pools.
  • Liaise with neighbouring schools.

12
Be Creative!
  • Adapt your curriculum to link PE to more
subjects. When have you ever used PE and linked
    it to another curriculum subject?
  • Consider a more creative curriculum
  • Links to ECM
  • Links to Healthy Schools

13

  • Signpost and club links
  • Extended Provision
  • Activate Take 10

14
Keep it Official
  • Make good use of your PESSCL survey data (soon to
be called PESSYP) it can be very revealing.
  • Get the Activemark award so everyone knows you
    are doing your bit.
  • Make sure you attend cluster meetings and forum
meetings to keep up with trends and events.

15
Dont forget.
  • The endless possibilities of the Gifted and
Talented agenda through PE and Sport.
  • Inclusion how do you encourage everyone to get
    involved regardless of ability?
  • Make sure PE is of high quality and is structured
so that your pupils get enjoyment and progression.

16
And finally .

    been achieved.
