  • HFH is a Christian based organization, however it
    is non-denominational

4
How Does it Work?
  • Sweat Equity you must put in hours
    volunteering for Habitat
  • After working on the homes of others, you will
get a home built for yourself and your family

5
What if You Dont Know How to Build a Home?
  • There are jobs for everyone!
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Organizing Meals
  • Organizing Supplies
  • Loading/ Unloading Materials

6
So Does It Work?
  • YES!!
  • Hundreds of homes are build all over the world
    each year.
  • Most of the homes are not even built in the US.

7
Where Did Habitat Begin?
  • HFH International was founded by Millard and
    Linda Fuller
  • In 1942, Clarence Jordan started a smaller type
of Habitat organization outside of Americus, Ga.
  • The Fullers met Jordan in 1973 and worked with
    his organization

8
Where Did Habitat Begin? (contin.)
  • The Fullers traveled to Zaire to get the basic
structure of Habitat formed and try the ideas
    out
  • Returned in 1976 and founded Habitat for Humanity
    International that September

9
Help From a Friend
  • President Jimmy Carter and his wife Rosalynn have
been active members of Habitat for Humanity since
    1983
  • The Jimmy Carter Work Project was established
    that same year.

10
Whats the Jimmy Carter Work Project?
  • The JCWP takes place once a year and lasts for
    one week.
  • For one week, the Habitat workers gather in a
specific location and rebuild a community.
  • Habitat workers build one hundred homes in one
    week.

11
Global Controversy
  • Why dont you just collect donations?
  • Wouldnt it be easier to send collect all of the
money that would be used on travel and housing of
    the workers, and hire contractors?
  • What if no one volunteers?

12
NAU Controversy
  • How can we build homes up here? Isnt the land
    very expensive?
  • How are the students supposed to build homes if
they have to travel all over Arizona?

13
NAU Controversy (pt. 2)
  • If Habitat for Humanity is a completely
non-profit organization, what happens if the club
    has no donations?

14
The Answers
15
Global Controversy Answers
  • Indeed, it would be easier to send money all over
the world, but thats not the point.
  • Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization
    based on fellowship and faith

16
Global Controversy Answers (pt. 2)
  • Because Habitat for Humanity has built such a
good reputation in the Christian community, many
churches make Habitat a priority. Therefore, it
will always have workers and donations.

17
NAU Controversy Answers
  • Yes, land is very expensive in Flagstaff, and
because of the Indian reservation, there is not a
lot of room to work. The club understands this,
and does most of its building in Verde Valley.
Carpools are set up, and all the students chip in
    for gas.

18
NAU Controversy Answers (pt.2)
  • The NAU chapter of Habitat holds several
fundraisers through out the school year.
  • The students also apply to ASNAU for sponsorships
to travel to places like Louisiana to help the
    Hurricane Katrina rebuilding projects.
