Furlough/Salary reduction
  • Research appointees (Research, Project Scientist,
    Specialist) are subject to reduction unless
  • On an exempt funding source. See table on HR web

  • H-1 visa holder
  • By exception

Furlough Exemption Program
  • Allows individuals to opt out of the furlough
    program in exchange for effort spent on exempt
    funds
  • Ladder faculty only- no exceptions
  • Must have funding through excluded sources to
    cover full furlough reduction percentage for the
    full period of the chosen FEP term
  • Election form available on AP web site at
    http//ap.ucsb.edu/forms.and.information/furlough.

Full year FEP
  • Runs 7/1/09-6/30/09
  • Note that dates are different than the
    furlough/salary reduction plan
  • Return to 100 REG as of 7/1/10
  • Had to sign up in September. Can no longer opt
    into full year program

Partial year FEP
  • Dates
  • Winter/Spring (11/1-6/30)
  • Winter only (11/1-2/28) (back on furlough for
    3/1-6/30)
  • Spring only (3/1-6/30)
  • Will go back onto REG pay 7/1/10.
  • May not modify once selection is made

  • Percentage will be higher than furlough reduction
    due to shortened dates
  • Example
  • Faculty with 8 pay cut will be on FEP for 10 if
    they do the winter/spring option. Have to
    condense 10 months of reduction (11/1-9/31) in to
    8 months of FEP (11/1-6/30)
