GATE vision at WCHS

• Each gifted and talented student will be fully
  prepared to energetically engage the real world
  and excel in his/her future.

Goals

• Every GATE qualified student enrolled in at least
  one AP/Honors course each school year they attend
  WCHS.
• 80 of all AP students earn a qualifying score of
  3 or better on AP Exams.

Objectives

• To track all GATE students and their enrollment.
• To make connection with those students to
  encourage them to enroll in AP/Honors courses.
• To make connection with parents and notify them
  about all that GATE offers.

• To offer vibrant and challenging differentiated
  instruction and accelerated pace for all GATE
  students in regular classes.
• To provide authentic, hands-on curriculum through
  rigorously active learning approach.

• To offer and fund frequent teacher training in
  all areas of AP/Honors instruction.
• To meet corporately with AP/Honors teachers at
  least twice a year.

• We offer 16 sections of Advanced Placement
  courses.
• Recent additions AP Statistics and AP
  Psychology

• We offer 24 sections of Honors courses.
• Classes are open to GATE and all students
  committed to high-achievement.

• Additional offerings
• Academic Decathlon, the most prestigious
  academic competition in the nation. WCHS
  finished 3rd in region two years ago out of 17
  teams.
• Academic Olympiad, a regional competition
  featuring 16 schools.

• Robotics
• Students will be traveling to Arizona to compete
  with robots the team builds. Last year they went
  to the national finals and were ranked the number
  one rookie team.

• Advanced courses in French German languages and
  in Applied Arts.

• Academic Breadth Requirement
• All students must earn an extra 5 credits in a
  core academic coursework above and beyond
  standard requirements.
• Course may be of their choosing.
