Objectives
PROJECT 1Conduct a Neighborhood Food Assessment
of two Seattle neighborhoods to identify issues
residents have concerning food accessibility,
affordability, and availability. Research will
include focus groups and an analysis of
socioeconomic status, demographics, and community
food resources. PROJECT 2Quantify and Compare
Greenhouse Gas Emissions from the production and
manufacturing of 4 food items produced by the
conventional food network, and the same items
when grown organically/locally/regionally.

Seattle Food System Enhancement Project
PROJECT 1 - Scoped potential neighborhoods-
Presented selection criteria- Narrowed down
neighborhoods to South Beacon Hill, First Hill,
and Rainier Beach. Action Work with NDCs to see
in which neighborhoods we would have the most
support for focus groups. PROJECT 2 Debated
scope of study. Would it be a systems-based
analysis or a micro-analysis of specific food
items? Action Work with OSE to determine scope
and specific outcomes of the project.

The USDAs Community Food Security Assessment
Toolkit defines six assessment components for
measuring community food security. We will fully
utilize the first two in our neighborhood
assessment.
