What is Sprint?
  • Started with Park World Tour
  • Adopted by IOF for 2001 WOC
  • 12 -15 minute winning time (i.e. 3 km)
  • 14000/5000 map scale
  • Urban/park/forest terrain
  • High control density (often 20 controls)
  • Difficult at high speed

12
Relevance to development
  • Can hold events where most people live
  • no need for special terrain
  • One course suitable for many
  • experts and beginners
  • Easy to put on
  • Just as good in summer as winter
  • weekday evenings in summer too
  • Events are visible
  • others can see what we do!

13
Implementation
  • As part of a series
  • In prologue plus Final (maybe chasing start)
    format
  • Along with another event e.g. Frolic plus Sprint
  • As a one-off event with several courses of
    different lengths
  • could have 5/6 km courses with Sprint-type
    planning for instance

14
Technical issues
  • Ideally map to ISSOM standards
  • Proximity of controls
  • ask to vary the 30m/60m rule to make navigation
    more challenging
  • Map individual trees to give more features
  • Dummy controls
  • Many direction changes
  • Mini-route choices
