Representation
Permacultur is considered as an ecological
strategy, based on our ecological traditional
element water soil air energy and himan
administration.. The international congress of
Rio de Janaeiro in 1992 created the wish for a
worldwide sustainable development. The
international movement of permacultur thinks that
the definition of sustainability is only refering
to existing resources of the moment. The
permacultur movement does not confirm that this
is sufficient. We have to regenerate the natural
basic resources. This means that every project
creation should analyse the resources of water,
soil, air, energy and stabilze human organisation
and adminsitration and should pay atention to the
possibilities to create these resources.

Salvador da Bahia
  • Waste-Water System for Salvador da Bahia with
    modern ecological technics.
  • The regional authority of Salvador da Bahia,
    EMBASA, Brasil, will realize a proposal of an
    ultra-old project, of the 60ies of the passed
    century. Ocean and coast of Salvador, road, place
    of marriage and birth of wales, golfins, turtles
    will be destroid with consequences of worldwide
    character. The social consequences for the
    biggest part of population of very low income,
    who could earn a small money with its work on
    the beaches and lakes have neither been
    considered nor even thought about, nor have been
    the consequences for the trourist section.
    Salvadors rivers have already been completely
    poluted, stinking and stopped offering fish for
    people of poverty.
  • Childrens Project e.V supports the public
    movement of Salvador to protect the biologiy of
    ocean and rivers for actual and futur
    generations. The development and realisation of
    ecological waste water treatments for Salvador
    needs an international involvement and a direct
    and effectove exchange with interested people,
    communities, universities of Germany and Brasil
    and the public movement of Salvador. Together we
    can stop the stupid distruction of the rivers and
    ocean due to not filtered water, and we can react
    with an innovative, well prepared and
    social-ecological correct proposal.

The Lake of Pituacu is totally poluted, like
other rivers of the city, too.

Engagement for Clean Water
  • On a public assembly in Salvador at the end of
    September 2005 Prof. Moraes offered his
    competences, relationships and possibilites as a
    leading professor of the UFBA (Federal University
    of Bahia) of the technical section to stop the
    EMBASA s proposal juridically and replace by an
    alternative proposal. He asked for more help on
    international level, too.
  • Childrens Project e.V suggests the
    participation of children and adolescences,
    according to 36, AGENDA 21, Rio de Janeiro
    1992, to realize an alternative proposal
    including approved modern ecological methods. On
    one side children and adolescents can learn about
    solutions for actual problems and can exchange
    their knowledge about possible steps with others
    of the same age in Salvador. On the other side
    new knowlegde of modern technologies for
    waste-water-cleaning can create futur solutions
    of global problem by exchange with Brasil.
  • A cooreration with german and international
    companies can offer adequate solutions and above
    this can help young unemployed people in Germany
    and Brasil and give perspectives for a better
    futur.

Ecological Waste-Water-Treatment for Salvador
  • The development of a modern system of cleaning
    waste water of the metropolitan city of Salvador
    special experiences and competence is needed. The
    responsible persons of the regional company
    (EMBASA) still insists that their proposal of
    1967 is competetive. They only did not calcualte
    the distruction of rivers, ocean and beaches. The
    truth is that the directory does obviously not
    respect any social ecological economical
    question.
  • The NGO Childrens Project shows the simplicity
    of modern cleaning sistems combined with re-use
    of water, energy-production and positive social
    ecological ecomical results for the city of
    Salvador. Supporting the public movement of
    Salvador against the rediculas proposal of the
    EMBASA, the ngo Childrens Project responds with
    workshops and seminaries about the possibbilites
    of modern technics. The first team of adolescents
    returned already from their education about
    ecological systems from Rio de Janeiro with a
    huge knowlegde and a lot of experiences. They
    did already start to pass their new technics to
    other young interested people and got even more
    help. The architect, Tony Anderson, Denmark, has
    been supporting them since March 2006.

Whole quarters of cities can get ecological
sistems with all their beneficial efects. In
Denmarc happened, in Salvador the first sistems
will be installed soon.

  • Tony Anderson, Denmark, visited the city of
    Salvador to help for the implantation of
    alternative sistems, supporting the life of the
    rivers, beaches and the ocean. This means he
    transfered an interntional knowledge of systems
    that clean used water until 99 . Above this that
    water can be re-used afterwards and like this
    reduce the use of drinking water. (look at BILAG
    8, page 9) He was active in Salvador

  • for politics, technicians, professores, students,
    adolescents searching professionalization and
    people interested. Based on wide experiences of
    worldwide mordern systems of the new century,
    until India, Tony was disposal to discuss
    sustainable solutions for Salvador. He also
    offered a workshop about the implantation of the
    first ecological waste-water-cleaning system in
    the quarter of Pituacu. All participants could
    learn about a technology supporting life with
    sustainable cosmopolitan solutions. Problably
    Tony will come back to Salvador in October 205
    already to discuss the results and futur
    projects.

Ecological Systems are more Economical
  • All old cleaning systems show their weakness. The
    costs of stability and of material and energy are
    raising quickly. Above this the old systems
    polute instead of protect our natural and
    environmental resources. Due to this we have to
    create new water treatment systems and relate
    them to the administration of the actual users.
  • This means that we have to develop systems who do
    not mixe the different type of waste water. Like
    this, the black water of toilets and the gray
    water of showers can not be mixed, also not with
    the rain water. We can prevent toxical
    substancies of human solids which is even more
    poluting than black water.

Agenda 21
  • According to the strategy of the AGENDA 21, from
    Rio de Janeiro 1992, ouf systems have to consume
    less energy and material and have to re
    relationed to a controle and administration of
    the local user. We can develop an edcuation
    programm for local inhabitants to enable them to
    unterstand, create and implement ecological
    systems.
  • This will raise the consciousness about
    ecological and sustainable development and will
    give experiences which can also be used for the
    administration of waste, sustainable nergy and
    the ecological food production etc. Its a
    possiblity to develop a systematic and structured
    learning-process.
  • This system of waste-water-cleaning will help to
    raise the diversity of ecological systems and
    stabilize ecological systems of water, seas,
    rivers, beaches etc. Because the outcomming water
    can be used like a direct spring for this
    sistems. (look at BILAG 8, page 9.)
  • This system will use much less drinking water and
    related to the production of purified water can
    be used as a spring for ground water.
  • Combined with the production of bambu we can
    raise the quality of air, reduce erosion and can
    use a natural material which is much more
    resistent the PVC for tubes.

International Approved Technics
  • According to the mentioned critics we propose a
    waste-water-cleaning system with plants, based on
    the technics developed worldwide as local
    decentralized systems.
  • This means that every defined community has to
    get the possibility to implant these systems.
  • As explicates these systems have to be defined in
    relation to the quality of waste-water
  • Black water has to be treated in septic tanks and
    if wanted can be combined with energy-use by a
    biogas reactor and after that oxigenized in an
    biological drum. This purificated and sterilized
    water will enter a sery of root zones.
  • 2. After the treatment in a filter with sand,
    the gray water, too, enters the root system. They
    can be constructed in two different types. One is
    the system called Camphill-System, which sends
    the water through a ventile on the ground of the
    bassin. This system has got the advantage of
    oxigenizing by the roots of the plants. . The
    other system, called Griffith-System, starts the
    treatment on the ground of the bassin. The water
    rizes and will be liberated on the top of the
    bassin. This system distributes the waste water
    in relation to the choosen plants. A combination
    of these two systems gives the opportunity of a
    big diversity of combined plants, which benefits
    the relations of absorbation of nutrients and
    minerals.

Permaculture created the best systems
  • Its vital that these systems will not be poluted
    by chemical non biodegradabel chemics or
    pesticids and fungicids.
  • 3. After these treatments with plants the water
    can get togehter with rainwater and like this
    participate the natural circling system of water.
  • Another possibility will be a connection of this
    treated water with the production of fruits,
    combined with lakes and rivers for fish
    production and for irrigation of gardens with
    fruits and vegetables etc.
  • This quality of water can be recycled for the
    sanitary systems, washing machines and perhaps
    even showers. At this stage the water still does
    not have drinking water quality.

Economia
  • The instalation of these systems will not
    substitute the costs of old treatments systems
    like sewers, adminsitration of stations and
    treatment with plants.
  • The advantage can be notices at the controle, the
    knowledge of the systems and the costs of
    funcioning will be reduced until 40 of the
    centralized systems. In Europe for example the
    price for drinking water raised up to 12 . This
    price is constituted with 6 for the treatment
    of water, more or less with 4 for the
    production of water and 2 for the local
    distribution.
  • The consumption of water can be calculated with
    more or less 120 l per person in Europe,
    constituted with 8 l drinking water for nutritien
    and showers, more or less 25 l for toiletts and
    washing machines and more or less 80 l for
    cleaning, irrigation, car washing etc.
  • Our case showed that 6 could be the value for
    the implantation of these systems. With normal
    conditions this still can be too much and
    probably combinado with an adequate education the
    costs can stay at about 20 of the costs of
    implantation and implementation of the system
    centralized due to the easier construction and
    less dependency of professional laboratories.
  • The 4 2 for a production and distribution
    only will stay for 8 l of drinking water
    instead of 120 l of the old systems.

  • In relation to the 5 represented designs, the
    first (item A) is a general vision of the
    principal ecological projects in the region of
    Vesterbor in Kopenhaven. The explications will be
    found at the end of the top
  • - Urban Renovation Center like a center for
    coordination for all activitiies in the region,
    the public sercies, activities of the private
    owners, inhabitants etc.- The centers establish,
    but still did not develop its a struggle about
    the influences between the organisations of the
    hinhabitants and the establishment of democracy.
  • Originally the center had been formed in
    relationship with a forum, formed by the groups
    of inhabitants, which is called the Conceil of
    Representatives it envolvs members of the
    different groups of sections and the community,
    its a line of 6-9 groups established in the
    urban aldeias.
  • - Lille Folkeparque is an area for researches of
    ecological urban renovation, development and a
    center of informations. Íts a house of the
    community by the groups of inhabitants, and of
    the differents projects about architectual
    systems, waste-water systems, plants, animals in
    urban areas will better the periods of
    renovations process. (item B). It was planned to
    start the funcionning at the end of 91.
  • - City Farm Project for illustration of the
    systems producing alimentation combined with
    recreative and educative activities in the area.
  • In relation to the entire area, different typs of
    recreation and cultural activities are planed
    (item C). Plan to start Jan.-92.

  • - Football field and green plan for the abandoned

  • - Separation of solid waste and disposal groupss
    Adubation of organic waste from domestic waste.
    Is funcitoning some years already.
  • - The Perma Cultur Bloc A recreative project,
    developed by the inhabitants and planed with a
    integrative ecological project Bioga and
    treatment of water by roots which produce oxigen,
    , low temperatures and active, passive solar
    heating, production of alimentation in green
    houses, adubation systems, trees and
    ....(arbustos) probably until 10-15 of
    production of alimentaton of about 5-6.000
    persons living there after the recreative
    process.(item D). Planed to start in -92/-93.
  • - Perma-cultur agricultural project A production
    project of agricultural alimentation where about
    20 adultos e 8 criancas administram a 1 ha farm,
    20 kmo from the area of Versterbro. They plan
    the delivery of all alimentation for 60 70
    persons in a period of 8-9 years at an area of 3
    ha (item E). Was functioning for 4 years.
  • All groups consist of inhabitants from the
    region, self-organized and with different public
    support. The entire area is the biggest slum in
    northern Europe, and since the fundation existe a
    big plan for an urban recreative process where
    the local persons are struggling to stay with
    better conditions. The realisation of these
    plans started in 92 and and had to stop for a
    period of about 10 years with costs about 100
    mio. US dollars a year. To try to controlate this
    situation, the inhabitant goups tried to seperate
    the administration about public decentralized
    services, the smallest groups working in the
    center of urban recreation.
  • From the beginning about 6-9 urban aldeias
    organized themselves which should be the skelett,
    where the inhabitants control the projects the
    degree to aprimorate the rent level.

Sistemas Ecologicos de Limpeza dos Esgotos e
Reuso de Agua nas Escolas Públicas de Salvador
da Bahia
  • The results of the last 12 month of the
    social-environmental movement in Salvador da
    Bahia show that the metropolitan entire city is
    in urgent need of Os resultados dos últimos 12
    mezes dos movimentos socio-ambientais no Salvador
    da Bahia mostram ecological waste-water cleaning
    systems instead of causing a social-ecological-eco
    nomical horror by non-treated waste-water or the
    implantotion of old systems. The development of
    ecological systems raises the possibilities of a
    cleaning degree until 99. Combinated with water
    re-use-systems more advantages can be gained like
    the reduction of running costs until 30 of the
    costs of old systems ( from 1970) and a reduction
    of the use of drinking water until 30 of the
    normal use. Above this the creation of fish can
    be combined with this systems and give costless
    food for the public shools kitchens. The limited
    public funds, too, but especially the
    low-income-population can be beneficed in short
    and long term dimension by the realisation of
    this sustainable development for Salvador.
  • The principal material can be Bamboo. Bamboo
    grows a lot in Bahia. Created and treated
    ecologically the bamboo serves like a relatively
    cheap instrument against erusion and for
    reduction of Di-Carbonium. And the creation and
    treatment of ecological bamboo can bring the
    advantage at the working marktet and sustainable
    business. The planning, implantation and
    implementation of these systems at the public
    shools with bambu could above this develop
    professionalisation, work and business for the
    huge amount of young people (1 mio young people
    /yeasr) in Salvador who is searching
    professionalisation or work for their first time.

Ecological systems at schools give many benefits
  • The implantation and implementation of pilot
    projects transfers and multiplicates the
    knowledge about planning and functioning of the
    ecological systems and wil give new actual
    details for better similar futur projects. The
    biggest part of Salvadors population are children
    and adolescents of the low income class. A
    minority of Salvadors population has already got
    a basic knowledge about the ecological systems.
    We found them at Universitiees and environmental
    organisations. This means it would be well done
    to plan together with environmental activists,
    students, professors and pupils of public schools
    above an age about 14 years. Like this all
    studenst of public schools can develop a basic
    ecological knowledge and can have the advantages
    of ecological waste- and re-use of water systems.
    Above this the creation of fish in every school,
    by this new systems, can improve a lot the
    alimentation which very often is the only one,
    poor students get during the day.

Social-ecological Efect
  • The social-ecological-economical efect of the
    realisation of the cleaning and re-use of water
    will influence relatively rapidly the
    consciousnes of the entire low-income population.
    The low income population will desire the
    instalation of similar systems at her own houses.
    Like this probably the development of an
    democratic sustainable citizenship which normally
    does not exist in poor areas, will get faster.
  • In the praxis is would be interesting to offer
    public presentations for directories and
    professors of public schools. During the
    presentations they can already develop and
    register their own interest in these new systems.
    The inicial team will choose the schools of the
    highest interest anf form first little groups of
    about 10 to 20 participantes of every school.
    They will participate the first theoretic and
    practical workshops. These groups will form
    sub-groups of about 5 persons with a democratic,
    creative, administrative student profile. Two
    persons of every group have to have a basic
    knowledge of alternative systems. They will
    create and exchange their first ideas and
    continuate the planning and implantation of their
    own systems. They also will controle the
    functioning and be responsible for the execution
    of every reperation needed.
  • Like this we can forme semi-professional groups
    and develop the professionalisation during
    further school projects where they also can act
    as multiplicators. The architect, Tony Anderson,
    specialist of ecological systems, did already
    impression the public in Salvador by his
    presentations and meetings with responsable
    people in March 2006 about futur possiblities of
    the city and offered to accopany the groups by
    his temporary visits and by the internet
    possibilities.
  • The planning, implantation, implementation and
    financing of the prosses for the development of
    sustainable systems for Salvador can be done in
    phases, means every scholar project can be
    created like one phase. Like this the results of
    the executed projects can influence to even
    better futur projects. The multiplicators will
    grow and with them the possiblitiies of
    sustainable development for the enteire city.
  • The didactic material can be technical equipment
    as foto and video cameras, slide-projectors,
    boards, a base of computers with adequate modern
    systems, bookds and actual journals, material for
    design, administration and relatories.
  • The workshops can widen school lessons as
    physics, chemics, biology, portuguese and
    environsments and combine the theorical education
    with practical experiences.

Methology
  • An inicial group of 20 adolescentes of extreme
    poverty enter the intensive training about the
    different types, creation and use of bamboo. They
    will be accompanied by thecnical students to
    start the planning of a waste-water-cleaning
    systems and re-use of water with plants.
  • Childrens Project do Brasil offers some land and
    various possibilities to experiment the
    implantation and implementation of these systems.
    The inicial group of Salvador will travel to the
    region of Conde, Litoral do orte, participating a
    workshop which can create the first works for
    contructions with bamboo. The first student can
    accompny them and prepare the first waste water
    cleaning systems with bamboo and plants. The
    Architect, Tony Anderson, who brought the
    knowledge about these systems to Salvador in
    March this year, will stay disposal and
    supervision the entire process by internet and
    temporary visits.
  • Until October this year, we expect a
    semi-professional level of the first team, who
    can already transfer their knowledge to other
    interested young people, especially for students
    of poor families of the public schools of
    Salvador and other quarters. , Like this we can
    get well developed results relatively quickly,
    which means we can create groups of
    bamboo-creations for
  • Ecological plantation and treatment of bamboo,
  • Creativity of art and gardens with bamboo,
  • Production of furnitures and constructions with
    bamboo,
  • Creation, implantation and implementation of
    waste water systems with bamboo.
  • After that basic courses they can be trained for
    the administration of a business with bamboo.
    Like this the first young people of poverty can
    get ready for the installation of various systems
    and probably for the foundation of their own
    micro-business with bamboo.

ACTIVITIES
An effective education has to respect the actual
situation of adolescents of the public schools.
Theorical lessons always have to be planned with
an exchange of living cultural lessons. This will
facilitate the dejestion of the new knowledge,
the atention and the desire to realize their
ideas. The principles of pedagogical
philosophies of Freire, Montessouri, Makarenko,
Pestalotzi, Silva, Freineit, Piaget can help in
practice.
  • Workshops Groups of adolescents can use the
    space of Childrens Project do Brasil for a
    special training.
  • Ecology Coursrs of simple until proffessional
    level to raise their general and special
    ecological capacity.
  • Bamboo Starting with a training about the
    diversity of bamboo, creation, treatment and
    development of art projects or gardening,
    construction and waste-water-cleaning systems,
    the bamboo will turn into an instrumento to
    create micro business and a wide working market.
  • Alimentation The base for a good development
    is a well balanced nutrition. During the courses
    and workshops the young people can get snacks and
    other nutrition possibilities as well as
    participate health cooking lessons.
  • Yoga and Meditation Courses of different
    levels, collective and individual training.
  • Ecological journeis On horses back, with a guide
    of the region the participants have the
    oportunity to know beautifull places and wll
    preserved atlantic forest of the region. We offer
    trips of half an hour until day trips. Capoeira
    This sport, a global cultural patrimonia of
    Bahia, will be used as a working instrument to
    better the realtionships among the groups, the
    differences the espectations, the felxibility and
    limits of discipline.
  • Afro-Dança Afro and Coreografies These
    offers enable the establishment and involvement
    with the afro-brasilian cultur and is a very good
    possibility for body expression. In Europe afro
    dance is very ofthen used as a therapeutical
    instrument.
  • Percussion The afro-brasiian rythms turned
    famous around the world. The students can learn
    all drums from the beginning until professional
    level. Percussion is considered as a fenominal
    instrument to form personal structures.
  • Hospedage The Fazenda de Iemanjá, in Conde
    offeres its natural beautiness and its art
    Chalets, created by young people, professionals
    and the help of visitors. All courses can be
    realised in a form of an intensive workshos,
    starting at the Fazenda with bamboo material.

History
Childrens Project e.V., benefits organisaton,
registred in 26131 Oldenburg, Germany, VR 2074,
founded in 1993 due to the inacceptable situation
of children, adolescents, women and the entire
nature of our planet. The NGO Childrens Project
e.V. Concentrated on sustainable development
according to the AGENDA 21. Development of
perspectives together with the participants of
cultural, ecological, economical projects and
promote the preservation of nature as well as
auto-sustainable projects with native groups,
less priviledged NGOs of the regions,
governments, business men, etc. Childrens
Project e.V. Concentrated above all on public
relations to inform and find partners to the
favour of these projects. Childrens Project do
Brasil was co-founded at the beginning of 2001and
legalized on 29 de Setembro 2003. Childrens
Project do Brasil follows the realisation of the
same objectives as Childrens Project e.V.,
Germany, but remains self-responsible and
develops its independency. Together they try to
sentify the self-development of children and
adolescents less priviledged, looking for local
partners to realize the AGENDA 21.
