  • Future Product Development Stream 1 (FPD1)
    Feasibility study
  • Up to 1 year investigation led by a clinician or
    an academic research group
  • Ideally there should be the potential for a
    device to be developed through RD
  • Funding to a total of 100k

Future Product Development (FPD)
  • Future Product Development Stream 2 (FPD2)
    Applied research project
  • A detailed investigation of up to 3 years led by
    a clinician or an academic research group
  • Builds on the results of a completed assessment
    of the feasibility
  • Funding typically of 150k per year

FPD projects supported
  • Projects which are building on prior basic
    research to address an existing or emerging
    healthcare need.
  • Projects which are utilising techniques or
    technologies from a different industry sector.
  • Projects which aim to develop disruptive
    technologies.
  •

FPD projects not supported
  •  Assessments or clinical trials of fully
    developed products or interventions with a
    history of use in the NHS.
  • Studies on the impact of interventions on service
    delivery and organisation.
  • Validating an existing technique(s) or
    technology.
  • Professional training.
  • Drug or medicinal development projects.
  • Projects which are concerned solely with software
    development or the application of existing or new
    software to an already developed device.
  • The development of knowledge networks.
