2006 Discovery Educator Network National
Poster Contest

• It is time to let your students' creative
  abilities shine through
• participation in the 2006 Discovery Educator
  Network
• National Poster Contest.  Challenge your students
  to express
• their love for learning by creating a digital
  image that shows how they
• "Connect to a World of Learning."  What do
  you enjoy learning? How do you learn? Where
  is the best place to learn? How does
  technology change what and how you learn? What
  inspires you to learn more about the world?
• Students are permitted to use digital cameras to
  take photographs or create their image using
  means other than a digital camera (e.g., drawing
  the image with pencil and paper and scanning the
  image into digital format, developing the image
  on a computer using a painting or drawing
  program, etc.).  Judging will be based on
  creative expression, technical merit/image
  quality, and interpretation/relevance to the
  theme.   Two winning images from each grade
  level range (K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12) will be
  selected and awarded prizes.  Winning entries
  will be used in a poster design that will be
  distributed to thousands of classrooms across the
  world.

For the 2007 School Year, well be rolling out
new benefits and programs for STAR Discovery
Educators.  Our first new initiative is the DEN
Extra Credit Program. The DEN Extra Credit
program will provide STAR Discovery Educators an
opportunity to earn technology for the classroom
by partnering with Discovery Education on various
activities.  Whether writing lesson plans for
existing content, or reviewing academic content
of new videos, the DEN Extra Credit program will
provide a wide variety of opportunities for STAR
Discovery Educators to contribute their expertise
to further the success of the DEN and Discovery
Education as a whole. As a reward for your
efforts on each project, participating members
will receive various technology products for
their classroom.  Depending on the size and scope
of the project, these products may include
wireless presentation devices, digital cameras,
LCD projectors, SmartBoards and various
technology packages for larger initiatives. To
apply to join the DEN Extra Credit Program,

• An InFocus LCD valued at 600 will be raffled off
  on 12/24/06 at noon to a qualifying STAR DEN
  member
• 1) Earn 1 raffle ticket for each training event
  by noon December 23. Note One additional
  ticket for more than 5 attendees or longer than
  30 minute event.
• 2) Earn 3 raffle tickets helping existing DEN
  members move to STAR DEN status by noon December
  23.(Member must identify you as the STAR DEN
  who helped them via an email from them to me
  confirming so. Ask them to CC you on that email!)

  question multiple choice quiz, AND hold one
  training event and report that event to me by

  school registration for Learning Adds Up and
  accessing your schools FREE Library COSMEO
  account by noon December 23.Validation of this
  will be an emailed note from your principal, PTA
  or PTO President, or LMC Director verifying your

  workshops, webinar, Digital Connections, regional
  or national events, etc.)
• Spread the word help recruit other leaders to
  become Discovery Educators
• Disseminate information (e.g., newsletter,
  podcast, etc.)
• Post a resource to the Discovery Educator Network
  Website educator resource area
• Contribute to blogs and/or discussion boards
