2What is International Baccalaureate?
- Designed as an interdisciplinary curriculum, the
IB program allows the student to apply their
theoretical knowledge to practical and
experimental situations. - IB is a rigorous, two year, pre-university
liberal arts course of study that meets the needs
of highly motivated and academically oriented
secondary students.
3Purpose of the IB Program
- Allow International acceptability into
universities - Teach in a non encyclopedic way the emphasis is
on helping students to learn how to learn and how
to analyze - Educate the whole person (6 exams in 5 academic
areas and 1 elective)
- Encourage students to appreciate cultures and
attitudes other than their own - Teach students to be informed, tolerant, and
willing to communicate with others - Provide a broad general education in all
accelerated courses

7For admittance into the pre-IB program (9th and
10th grades) students will submit an application
with the items listed below. Each area is
awarded points which will determine a students
score. Students will be ranked in a point order,
and we will admit students from the list based on
the number of seats available.
- 1) 8th grade report card (10 points)
- 2) Strong teacher recommendations (10 points) We
are looking for work ethic, character, and love
of learning - 3) Essay (10 points) We are looking at content
and structure - 4) Test Scores (20 points)
- FCAT, PSAT, or other nationally normed
test

9Entering the IB Program
- At the end of a students sophomore year, he will
be asked to apply for continuance in the IB
program. - The following items will be reviewed and awarded
a maximum of ten points - Maturity/Discipline, Meets Deadlines, Testing
Performance, Grades, Writing Ability, Commitment
to the IB program, Attendance, Dedication to
learning/works well with others, and Oral
Communication.

11IB Diploma Requirements
- Pass 6 exams in the 6 subject areas 3 at the
higher level, 3 at the standard level - Students need 24 points to earn the diploma
- Exams are graded 1-7, with 4 as passing
- Satisfactory Complete
- ---Extended Essay (4,000 word essay)
- ---150 hours of Creativity, Action, Service
- ---Complete the Theory of Knowledge course

13PRE-IB APPLICATION
- Feb 12th IB Parent/Student Panel at Nease 630
pm - Applications/waivers must be completed online by
midnight on Feb 17th. Recs, report card, test
scores should be mailed to Mrs. Dresback at Nease
(Postmarked by 2/17) - Applications will be reviewed and scored.
- Decisions will be mailed btw March 4-6
- Committment/registration forms must be sent back
